Sabres Selection, #106 Overall Colin Jacobs, C

Colin Jacobs

POSITION: Centre
SHOOTS: Right
TEAM: Seattle (WHL)
BORN: January 20, 1993
Height:6’ 1”
Wdight: 195 Lbs
STATS: 68 GP 22 G 22 A 44 PTS 69 PIM -19

SCOUTING REPORT: A good sized kid who plays a gritty hard working game. Skates well in a north/south
role but lacks lateral mobility and jump. Drives the net and works the boards well. Is good with the puck on
his stick but not going to beat many defenders one-on-one. Lacks hockey sense and the on ice awareness
to be a consistently productive player even at this level. The scouts had high expectations for Jacobs coming
into the year but he brought more questions than answers as he failed to produce anywhere up to those
expectations. Ultimately he uses his big frame to play a hard hitting, defensively responsible game and has
some offensive skill to chip in the odd goal.
NHL POTENTIAL: Third line character forward.

One of my guys. Love it.

ct2111 06-25-2011 11:49 AM

Love it. Thought he'd be gone as well.

Chainshot 06-25-2011 11:49 AM

Good two-way kid with decent size. Good.

umwoz 06-25-2011 11:50 AM

Very good pick, another C to stock the system, one that probably shouldn't have been around at this point. Good two-way guy, over 6 feet, around 200 lbs.

OcAirlines 06-25-2011 11:50 AM

Stats are very unimpressive, but sounds okay ;).

TSR's take:

Quote:

47. RC Colin Jacobs – Seattle (WHL)

DOB: Jan. 20/93 | Shoots: R | Height: 6.02 | Weight: 204lbs
Midterm Rank: 35 | League Rank: 8th WHL | Country Rank: 13th USA

Colin Jacobs came into the season with lofty expectations on a young Seattle team, and though he didn’t fully live up to those expectations, Jacobs quietly had a solid season. The Coppell, Tex. native has NHL size and has proven to be very durable in his two seasons in the WHL, while posting solid, if not spectacular point totals. Jacobs is a work in progress, (as evidenced by his -52 combined ranking in the last two seasons), but he is a solid skating, physical center with good offensive instincts, and is good on the defensive side of the puck as well.

Seattle sucks and didn't score many goals IIRC.

Very good prospect.

umwoz 06-25-2011 11:52 AM

Seems he's closer to 6'3 205 than 6'1 195. Either way, good size and a good two way player that should bring some character.

It should be factored in that his entire team was terrible offensively this year.

N.Y. Orangeman 06-25-2011 11:52 AM

Jarrett Stoll with getzlaf qualities per dobber

Weird Fish 06-25-2011 11:52 AM

2 centers in a row? And the second one is over 6' and 200lbs?! Very nice.

Rhett4 06-25-2011 11:52 AM

Keep the center prospects coming. Gritty third line center someday? I'll take it if it happens.

Sabreality 06-25-2011 11:57 AM

They just did a quick little interview with him on the NHL.com feed. He seems like a great kid. If you click the link and view the video on him, the scrap he's involved in is with Brad Ross, which get's a huge thumbs up from me.

SeattleShark 06-25-2011 11:57 AM

i've seen him a lot iin his WHL career. he is very talented but immature. overall great pick up especially for the mid 4th could end up being a real steal

Rob Paxon 06-25-2011 11:58 AM

Best part: As a Dallas kid, he said watching the Stars win the Cup in '99 is what pushed him into hockey!

Really, really like our weekend so far. 3 good picks and 1 phenomenal trade! I think this is one of the best days I've had as a Sabre fan.

sabresfan129103 06-25-2011 12:05 PM

another center, I'll take it.

Chainshot 06-25-2011 12:05 PM

CSB's stuff on him:

Quote:

NHL Central Scouting's B.J. MacDonald
"He gets better every game out. He pays attention to the defensive side at both ends of the rink. He helps out down low. He's learning to use his size much better and has good positioning. He's playing on a low-scoring team, but he's getting more effective offensive instincts each game. He's always around the puck, plays well in traffic and the corners. He's strong on the puck.”

Yeah i know, but i still think that guys like Jacobs or Noebels have really weak stats for the 4th round. But hey, a Center with size, i sure like it!

Afino 06-25-2011 12:10 PM

Not complaining about this guy either.

ImpressedDAHagent 06-25-2011 01:34 PM

man am i ever excited for jacobs. i can totally tell that he was a fan of stu barnes. this is great!

welcome to the organization

JPurp26 06-25-2011 01:40 PM
