HEIGHT: 6' 0" WEIGHT: 195

HC Trinec U-18/U-20 squads
Two seasons with Spokane

2010-11: 65 GP, 21G, 39A, 60P, +19, 60 PIM

Scrapped a good bit this season. Amusingly, here's one of those fights...

Note: A 6-foot, 195-pound forward from Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League (WHL). Uher, 18, finished the regular season ranked fourth on Spokane with 60 points (21G-39A) in 65 games. He added 11 points (2G-9A) in 17 postseason contests. A native of Ostvava, CZE, Uher has produced 76 points (25G-51A) in 118 games with the Chiefs.

Sexton’s Take: “He plays hard. He’s strong. He has good speed. He put up reasonable numbers. He plays like a Penguin. A great two-way guy.”

Darth Vitale 06-25-2011 12:26 PM

He's Czech! Sure sign that Jagr is coming here! Shero is stockpiling Czechs to put Jaro's mind at ease.

On a serious note I notice most of the guys we're getting are pretty close to being physically developed for their height. 6' 195' is a good weight for this level. Especially if he's good on his skates. Wouldn't want him to gain more weight because I doubt it would make much difference at this size. 6' 195 is actually pretty stocky. If you work out about the ideal weight is around 180 or so, and if you're in a non-football / non-roid sport somewhere in the 190-200 range.

First Czech born center playing in the NHL since the great Milan Kraft, I believe. What could possibly go wrong?

Whoa two picks from out of the DUB this year.

Sidney the Kidney 06-25-2011 12:31 PM

So what kind of player is this guys supposed to be? Skilled? Mucker and grinder? Defenseman in disguise? :sarcasm:

gavinator11 06-25-2011 12:34 PM

Had 60 points this year and has plenty of fights on youtube.

LOL:

Joe Morrow fighting Uher. Just a quick takedown.

Darth Vitale 06-25-2011 12:34 PM

Hrm. A lot of those highlights are not highlights (forced turnovers, etc).

Looks OK with the puck in traffic, pretty good vision / hockey sense when he's got some space, not particularly fast, shot is weak. Can't fight (or if he can they put the one in there were he lost). This guy is a project. Projects to 4th line C based on what I see there.

Get To Our Game 06-25-2011 12:35 PM

Can't verify the source, but this guy has one post on hfboards and it's about Uher.

Quote:

Dominik Uher- born 12/31/1992 is the youngest drafted import into CHL in 09. Last three seasons played for HC Trinec U17, Czech Republic. Is a player with a huge drive and determination who has been improving every season. Great skater, likes to pass and has a good shot with a quick release. Good in one on one battles, very strong around the boards. Very well build and physically prepared for his age. Has the potential to develop into top rated player.

Uher is a 6’0”, 178 pound forward.

In 38 games this past year with HC Trinec in the Czech Republic, Uher scored 19 goals and 46 points and added another five goals and 11 points in nine playoff games. Uher has played 88 games for HC Trinec over the past three years, plus 17 more post-season games. He will be eligible for the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Maybe Shero should stick to drafting defensemen afterall. :sarcasm:

Burgs 06-25-2011 12:36 PM

Too bad he wasn't born a day later. He'll cost an overager and an import player spot in 2012-13.

Captain Hook 06-25-2011 12:37 PM

Gotta bring some more Czech's into the organization to make Jags happy.

This is what I saw too. Looks like he could be a Max Talbot type if his physical side continues to develop.

Not sure I agree with the shot part. Based on the video reel it looks like he gets mostly grungy goals and has a slow release. Unless it was really bad video editing and that slowed his release down. :D

eXile59 06-25-2011 12:41 PM

Well at least his name won't be hard to spell.

SidGenoMario 06-25-2011 12:43 PM

What an awful highlight video.

Get To Our Game 06-25-2011 12:43 PM

Yeah, I take everything I read on hfboards with a grain (or pile) of salt. Has decent stats, but doesn't look to be much of a scorer at the next level (if he makes it there, obviously). Can't complain with the value at a 5th round pick. Especially if I just learned he existed 20 minutes ago. :D

farscape1 06-25-2011 12:46 PM

Would rather of taken another defensemen. Awlful pick. Shero really pissed the pot this draft.

Ugene Malkin 06-25-2011 12:47 PM

Better late than never, center.

thecore 06-25-2011 12:48 PM

At this point you are looking for bottom six type guys who are good enough skaters to at least have a shot at rounding out their game and making it to the NHL.

Wouldn't go that far but this does seem like a bad pick / evaluation by the scouts. He must have a really good attitude and work ethic, which maybe combined with his size and OK skating / dishing ability, they figure he could help the team in WBS or as a fill in one day on the big team (4th line).

Glad I'm not the only one who thought this. Not exactly pumping up the case to draft him.

farscape1 06-25-2011 12:51 PM

They said this was a weak draft and Shero sure made that clear.

Get To Our Game 06-25-2011 12:51 PM

Yeah, definitely a weird video. Especially when the first fight they showed was one of him losing. Caught me off guard.
