good bye gilroy

surprised grachev asked to be traded but it explsins alot

SupersonicMonkey* 06-25-2011 01:44 PM

Sheds interesting light on Grachev.

HE wanted out.

Certainly reduces trade value.

Fact we got a player with upside, that they scouted heavily, for Grachev is lucky.

RangerBoy 06-25-2011 01:44 PM

Qualifying offers are due on Monday.

The Rangers are waiting for July 1 and Richards.

Players can file for arbitration on July 5. Team can file on July 6. The Rangers will re-sign their players after they file which is what occurred with Ryan Callahan and Dan Girardi the past 2 summers.

Vitto79 06-25-2011 01:45 PM

I agree with Gilroy getting the boot, Grachev wanted so now a 3rd is a fine return, I agree with Feds only back if its on Ranger contract terms

Yeah it makes it much easier to swallow. Still wish we got a bit more for him but oh well. If a player wants out you usually get fair value.

Sounds like we did the best we could re: Grachev. Disappointed with how that turned out, but I do like Fogarty and I guess that's how it goes sometimes.

The comments about waiting to sign the RFAs screams that Richards will have a big offer waiting for him on Friday, which was our best chance to sign him after the Drury complication. Leaves us very open to RFA poaching though, which becomes a major concern if Richards is signed. If we lose out on him, I expect all the RFAs will be signed before the arb date.

Riche16 06-25-2011 01:54 PM

Wow. Hell of a day. Gratchev. Gilroy. Crazy about Gratchev but maybe he asked for a trade AFTER being shopped for a year? I dunno. Interesting.

We need some help, IF that help is BR and IF it's for a hefty sum... loooks like someone won't be getting a contract until camp when Drury and/or Redden are no longer an issue.

well they need to know how much it will cost to get Richards in. Lets say he is signed they can allocate the dollars accordingly. Not concerned they will get it done in time.

I go from rooting for Grachev to not caring at all. Kid doesn't want to be a part of the rangers, can go away for all i care

I'm not concerned about it getting done in time either (like by training camp I mean; no holdouts). But I am concerned if the Richards bidding gets so high that we can't sign say Cally or Dubie up until Redden's cap hit disappears and Drury goes on LTIR that someone will force our hand through an RFA offer.

Exactly. That's how I feel.

Also I hope the Richards extravaganza is done by July 1st. Want to get Cally, Dubi Arty and Mike reupped ASAP.

well if you look at how much they have to spend and think positive meaning Richards gets a crazy 8 yr , 52 million, 6.5 cap hit

they will have plenty to focus on Callahan and Dubinsky first

Sauer, Boyle, AA hopefully will all come in under 2 million each

they may have to negotiate to save a few hundred thousand here and there but it can be done in plenty of time.

Does the player not have to agree to the Offer sheet? You really dont see it often. Hamaljarson last yr was the only one no?

Yeah hopefully it won't happen. But if you're like Brian Boyle and some team offers you 2.5-3 a year I think you sign that deal no matter how loyal you are to the Rangers. And that would force some decisions on us (though he is the one I would be most ok with losing)

you may be right but man Boyle was given a chance here so he would be a huge ****** to that to the team.

Also does this mean Chad Johnson was qualified? What about Mitchell? Only Gilroy not out of RFAs?

have we confirmed Vtank is not an RFA and under contract already? I see Kolarik and Weise are back.

are they not counting minor league dudes? Most of which I rather have them given the boot

I think Sather just spoke about the full-fledged NHL RFAs and the guys like Johnson and Mitchell we won't hear about until Monday. Fairly certain Valentenko remains under contract.

OverTheCap 06-25-2011 02:34 PM

Unfortunately, the fallout from the Grachev trade will overshadow the news that Gilroy is as good as gone!

I think someone posted here about a month ago that Gilroy felt a bit slighted that he wasn't going to receive a QO and was shopping his services to Dallas, Carolina, NYI, etc. Glen was nice enough to give him an offer that was less than his QO and it seems like he's not pleased with it. Good riddance!

Don't see how that is possible. He wanted to turn pro. If anything, the Rangers helped him the last two years. Anyone says anything about ruining the kid is an idiot. Plain and simple.

beastly115 06-25-2011 02:43 PM

Grachev's gonna bust no matter where he plays. Whatever.

HAPPY HOUR 06-25-2011 02:50 PM
