I will update this thread as each contract gets signed.

missK 07-24-2004 09:07 PM

On the figures above, I used the salaries as reported on the NHLPA.com website.

Please note: Three salaries for the 04-05 season differ from what we had on last years list (Lecavalier, Lukowich & Richards) so if you are tracking them for your personal use, you should edit your spreadsheet.

Great job, missK thanks! :handclap:

Padawan 07-25-2004 03:05 AM

I believe Perrin has a one way contract. I remember reading this when he first signed that he would first play with two way contract and if the Lightning use their option it would be a one way contract.

LastoftheBrunnenG 07-29-2004 05:00 PM

Thanks MissK!

Yes, Eric had a two way last season and now has a one way for 04-05. I have updated the list above.

With the wage bill already at $30m, the figure of circa $50M looks a decent bet as has been stated previously on these pages. Just a question though. The CBA is about most teams losing money each year and so making the wage bill more manageable, but whilst in the past I,m sure the Lightning have lost money, presumably after a Stanley Cup winning, we have surely banked a few $$$$$. Any idea how much we might have made over the run, particularly with a couple of 7 game series thrown in, and the extra TV money.

I assume that this is paying for the extra payroll, and that the owners have not just decided to throw another $20M at the team. In the UK for example, if your soccer team stays in the Premier League (the highest level of 4 divisions), you are guaranteed at least £15M in TV money distribution, plus extra money for each match shown live. Do these same principles apply in the NHL, or is it a fixed amount for each team?

Rob.

Sotnos 08-04-2004 08:29 AM

The national TV contract is split evenly among the teams, and it's a very small amount, a few million (I'd have to look it up). I don't think playoff teams get extra tv money, I think they just split it up among all 30 teams at the beginning of the season. Very interesting how the Premier League does it, never knew that. :)

The team did make money last year, not sure if they've ever announced a final figure of how much.

missK 08-04-2004 11:53 AM

If I remember correctly, the team broke even in the East Conf Finals series (not sure what game it was). I remember an article that said each HOME game in the Stanley Cup Finals would bring the team something like $1.9 million. We had 4 home games.....

Sorry, wrong total posted on 8/3/04.

GoBoltz56 08-05-2004 01:50 AM

According to TSN.ca Fedotenko got 1.5 million for one year

Mark O 08-05-2004 02:58 AM

It is my understanding that the Lightning is shopping for at least a veteran goaltender for Springfield to complement most likely Eklund.
Anything on that yet? Or are we not counting those signings? Not sure about Terry Virtue either.

No one has been signed for goalie at Springfield other than Eklund so there's nothing to enter on this list as far as that goes. Virtue has been added to the list.

Thanks, I appreciate your help! I actually edited Grahame's salary tonight on this thread, the NHLPA.com list has $1,280,000 for this season so adding the 30K difference, the total is now:

$35,254,605 for 16 players

Realistically, you should add in salaries for Alexeev and Perrin to bring you total to 19 players.

If you'd like to, be my guest.

I would suggest that the reason why I don't count their salaries in the NHL total is Alexeev played zero NHL games last season and even though Perrin won the Cup with us, he only played in 5 regular season games all year. They both have to prove they deserve to play in the NHL by winning their jobs in camp. All the other Lightning players already included in my salary total will be playing in the NHL for the Lightning when the CBA is signed, barring injury or trades. But that's JMO....
