Rangers Prospect Poll: #2

In a closest fight for the top spot that I can remember, Chris Kreider won the top spot, though failed to get 50%. I think we can agree that it's due to the strength of other prospects (Erixon and McDonagh) than his weakness.

Carl Hagelin easily won the next spot in the poll. Don't forget to write-in who should be added in the next round. Also would be good to include a discussion/argument on why you voted for a particular prospect.

Also, McDonagh is still a prospect. Once again, you can't decide on your own who is and who is not a prospect. HF has particular rules.
If a prospect is a skater (forward, defenseman) and has played in 65 NHL games or more before the completion of the season of his 24th birthday; or, if a goaltender has played in 45 NHL games before the completion of the season of his 24th birthday, that player will be considered graduated to the NHL. Conversely, if a player completes the season of his 24th birthday without passing those milestones, then that player will no longer be considered a prospect by Hockey’s Future, regardless of the player’s status with his NHL club.

McDonagh played 40 NHL games, which is less than 65. If you don't like the name "prospect", then just call it "players with under 65 games experience." Either way, McDonagh is an option to be voted for in this poll (even though I personally will be voting for Tim Erixon, but because I regard him as a better prospect, not because McDonagh is not eligible.)

TOP PROSPECTS

1. (+1) LW Chris Kreider
Born Apr 30 1991 -- Boxford, MA

"He's got size, strength, speed and he can really shoot a puck. His speed is so exceptional and there aren't too many guys like him who can do all of that, but he's got that quick release...Any time he has been given the opportunity to be "the guy" he excelled.

Can I get some feedback on whether Jonathan Audy-Marchessault counts as a prospect? Do you want him to be part of the poll?

BlueshirtBlitz 06-27-2011 02:52 PM

McD, add MZA.

jas 06-27-2011 02:52 PM

McDonagh. Add MZA.

Beacon 06-27-2011 02:52 PM

Voted for Tim Erixon. Everything I read about him in the THN, TSN, HF, Ranger personnel quotes, etc. says that he's a blue-chip prospect, probably our #1 guy.

Add MZA.

Same. And I vote to count JAM as a prospect since it sounds like he wants to sign an ELC with us and was willing to take a year off his Hartford deal to earn one.

Also, I voted for McDonagh both this round and last but I'm kinda rooting for Erixon to take this round because after what I've already seen from McD I know we're in great shape if we have two prospects that are even better.

BlueshirtBlitz 06-27-2011 03:07 PM

Erixon should handily win 3 if McDonagh wins this. I just don't think you can say he's better right now since McDonagh was fantastic in his NHL stint this year, while Erixon has been fantastic in the SEL.

Went with McD based simply on how much he impressed me last year. I think there's more there. Based on what I've read about Erixon, he has as much upside, perhaps a bit more - but it's real close. As a result, in this case I did go with the guy who's taken the next step.

Add Fasth. While I really like Hagelin, he tops out as a 3rd liner and MAYBE a 2nd liner, whereas Fasth has legitimate top line upside (granted, odds are still low at this point) if he continues his tremendous progression over the last 18 or so months. My guess (strictly a guess) is that his development in particular is what made Horak expendable.

As to JAM, I would be inclined to add him as players who get AHL contracts tend to sign with the teams that give them to them if those teams want to sign them. In fact, I've often wondered if those AHL contracts include a right of first refusal or some other clause that gives the parent team an advantage in signing guys on AHL deals - or if it's a gentleman's agreement or simply sheer gratitude that leads to this phenomenon. Anyone know?

Having said all of the above, if there's a HF rule on whether these guys are in or out as prospects, I'm happy to follow that too. Unfortunately I think this may fall under the last sentence of the HF definition ("NOTE: These are general guidelines and should be followed the majority of the time but certain players may still be listed as prospects if circumstances warrant").

Voted McDonagh

Add Fasth

Ih8theislanders 06-27-2011 03:21 PM

McD, for sure

Thordic 06-27-2011 03:27 PM

Hard to argue with McD since he already pretty much graduated.

Add MZA.

Propane Nightmares 06-27-2011 03:28 PM

McDonagh, add Zuccarello

Erixon, he's two years younger than Mcd and I think he has a little more upside. Add MZA

this, McD gets it because of last yr. Going forward it shoud be great to see them both on the ice

Jumbo* 06-27-2011 03:44 PM

Erixon and McD both NHL ready, Erixon with the higher potential and two years younger, Erixon gets the vote.

Bluenote13 06-27-2011 03:51 PM

If you had to, HAD to trade one right now, who would it be, McDonagh or Erixon ?

Well, Erixon may be prove to be NHL ready, but we can't say that with certainty as of yet. McDonagh, on the other hand, isn't "NHL ready," he is in fact an actual NHL player. That's why I give the nod to Ryan.
