Weber to the Flyers?

If Weber and Nashville can't come to a deal.

To Philly:
Shea Weber
Cal O'Reilly
2012 2nd Rounder

To Nashville:
Sean Couturier
Jake Voracek
2012 1st Round Pick
2013 1st Round Pick
2012 2nd Round Pick (LA's)
Matt Walker

We are in win now mode. I really like Couturier, but a bunch of assets that help us win in 3 years don't interest us. We need help for this coming season. Not evern looking at value, it's not the right type of pieces.

Is this real life?

Will try not to be too harsh here. I know Philly and Preds have a decent trade history and I still miss Hartnell and Timonen.

Picks and spare parts won't get our all-star captain. JMO.

I honestly believe that Ryan Ellis to Boston trade rumor at the draft was real and think that if Sean Couturier had lasted till the 9th pick that we would have pulled the trigger, but...

As has been said, we are in a win now mode and trading Weber would put us back into rebuild/development mode. We're not going to pull that trigger right now...

Viqsi 06-27-2011 08:13 PM

I'm pretty sure Giroux would be a minimum requirement.

token grinder 06-27-2011 09:17 PM

that value if fair. more than fair maybe.

but alas, go away

i was thinking this too.

JVR would be nice, as well.

If Weber is dealt, we could do far worse, but he isn't going to be dealt. End of scenario :)

Change the years to 2020, and maybe that works.

I mean, really, Matt Walker?

There is no package interesting enough that doesn't include Giroux. I know you don't like to hear that, but it would take that sort of return.

predfan24 06-27-2011 11:37 PM

This is a deal a rebuilding team would make.

Can't wait for Webs to re-sign so all this crap will stop.

I think that trade would have made sense. Couturier seems like a Preds type of player. I would have approved of this trade assuming Weber gets locked up soon.

XtremeofParanoia 06-28-2011 08:49 AM

If you want Weber on the Flyers, pick up NHL 11 and play Be A GM. I snagged Weber for Carter straight up.

Otherwise, Preds have no reason to think about this.

kakemono 06-28-2011 09:11 AM

No one is untouchable.
If we trade Weber, we could do worse.

The value is there, but a bunch of picks and prospects won't get it done. NHL players would. Giroux and JVR would be nice.

I just figured if it came to the worse case scenario for the Preds. The funny thing is, I'm a Preds fan, just secondary to the Leafs, so my knowledge on them is more on the limited side. Philly could use a young defender in the ilk of Weber. Obviously roster players would be preferable but unlikely I think. I tried to go off the basis of 4 first rounders. Voracek still has a lot of potential as a top 7 pick. Couturier is very much a Pred type player and has some high upside. The other firsts are probably low so they have less value, however the pick in 2012 has some higher value being just in 2012.

Maybe adding O'Reilly was a mistake. The Walker part was just to try and even out salaries a bit (Philly would need to move some cap a little), and nothing else.
