Souray waived (for buyout)

EDM puts Sheldon Souray on unconditional waivers for purposes of buyout.

Darrelle Lundqvist 06-30-2011 11:08 AM

I bet Barker and Commodore get picked up for sure. But Souray...

SOKOL 06-30-2011 11:09 AM

So outside of Drury (bought out already), Sloan, Souray, Commodore and Barker (assuming they all clear, and they will), no other players...

BruinsBtn 06-30-2011 11:11 AM

The Oilers should have left him in the minors. That guy is a jerk.

Fugu 06-30-2011 11:12 AM

Title fixed. Don't put the link in the title please.

The other players are under discussion in previous threads.

Remember when this guy thought he could even make a shortlist of teams for Edmonton to trade him to?

How to kill a career in one easy step.

The Big Giant Head 06-30-2011 11:19 AM

so with him being bought out...does that mean anyone can sign him now? Will he be given a second chance and signed?

Well at the time he did have value and he did end up opening the list up to just about every team in the NHL. He would've probably been a Ranger if it weren't for an infection on trade deadline day.

mtsurette 06-30-2011 11:21 AM

Souray is on waivers, summer must be here.

voxel 06-30-2011 11:21 AM

I can see him signed for $1M/yr by somebody afterwards... he's like MAB.

I really doubt it. Why?

I don't see why not. I'm sure Souray at 1mil is appealing to a lot of teams.

He's so much better than MAB.

He is where he is because he was an idiot about his situation.

He's overpaid, but not by 4.5M. I think he can get more than 1M, but I wouldn't be surprised if he is forced to take less due to his aforementioned attitude.

Barker supposedly has "off-ice" issues and Commodore seems done.

GentlemanOfLeisure 06-30-2011 11:26 AM

Souray has nothing left. He was getting 20 points in a season in the AHL.

In 40 games.

While suffering an injury.

Anyhow, I hope somebody signs him. He deserves to be in the NHL.

Rangers should buy out Redden too...

It needs to be noted that the injury occured is very likely to happen again. He broke it fighting. His wrists are just to fragile. He'll either break it fighting this year or while taking a slapshot.

Dick Whitman 06-30-2011 11:43 AM

I'm really surprised that Redden isn't on the buy-out block. He's an NHLer, albeit a pretty poor one who is only in the minors because of his contract. Seems to me he's the perfect candidate to get bought out.

It's because of his contract, the Rangers make bank and can afford to have him in the AHL for three years instead of having his buyout hit fluctuate between almost 2 and over 3 million for six years.

Would cost the Rangers too much. I hate seeing a player like that buried for the sake of the cap. His career is ruined now. There needs to be some option in the next CBA that if this occurs the player can break the contract with the club or something. And I know, shouldn't feel sorry for a guy making 5 mil in the AHL, but that blows. He's an NHL defensemen.

He's not even that poor... just vastly overpaid.

Guy would have been fine as a 4-5 guy who can put up 25-35 points if he made 3-4 M instead.

Marc the Habs Fan 06-30-2011 11:48 AM

It's going to be torture hearing and reading a bunch of out of touch Habs fans campaigning for the return of Souray in the coming days/weeks.

Oates2Neely 06-30-2011 11:48 AM

Boston should sign him.

2 years, $2m per year.

Chara Seidenberg
Souray Boychuk
Ference McQuaid
*Kampfer

r0bert8841 06-30-2011 11:53 AM

Hope Ken Holland can get him cheap.
