Jackets bring back Aaron Johnson

Cbj just signed Aaron Johnson to a 2 way deal

I like it. Protects the kids if the blue line gets ravaged with injuries or something.

I'm assuming this is the same Aaron Johnson that was once a young prospect in the CBJ organ-eye-zation and is best friends with Nash?

MFRONE 07-01-2011 04:17 PM

Nash is thrilled

Samkow 07-01-2011 04:17 PM

He'll do well in Springfield and serve as a reminder to Howson of the dangers of rushing defensive prospects.

blahblah 07-01-2011 04:19 PM

Welcome back.

Matthew 07-01-2011 04:20 PM

Being Rick Nash's BFF really does pay after all.

CBJSprague24 07-01-2011 04:33 PM

I was just saying in the Interesting Info thread how we were down to one player that was around at the start of 06-07.

GMSH has just upped that count to two.

Roadman 07-01-2011 04:35 PM

Some seasoning for the blue line in Springfield.

JacketsFanWest 07-01-2011 04:39 PM

AJ and Nash are good buddies. I think Nash was the best man at AJ's wedding.

Viqsi 07-01-2011 05:06 PM

So he'll be the assistant to our defense coach at Springfield, then? :)

Nice to see him back.

I seem to remember that Hitchcock tried to squeeze Johnson into a forward role in Johnson's final season during his first tour here....

This. I think he shaps up as a #8.

Good to have Sunshine back

Your recollection is correct.

Johnson's problem is that he's never been anything above a third-pairing defenseman or a fourth-line forward. That said, he's a nice guy and well-liked by his teammates, so that counts for something. He's an adequate injury replacement, but I'd expect him to spend most of the year in Springfield.

Nash is from Ontario and played in the OHL, Johnson is from Nova Scotia and played in the QMJHL.

They were just a couple of guys who were in camp at the same time (2002) and hit it off. Not much more to it than that....and if there is, I really don't want to know what it is.:shakehead

"He was captain of the football team, she was a varsity cheerleader..."

Anybody else wonder if this was a favor to Nash as much as it was a Springfield signing?

Maybe, since he left a few seasons ago, Johnson has bounced around a ton.

I often here this said about guys that don't quite stack up on the ice, and I don't really think its a bonus to be honest. Having friends on the ice with you can be as much of a detriment as a benefit. When that guy is screwing up, and he needs to hear it from a teammate, you don't want to have something friendship get in the way.
