Sucks I know, but who the heck wants to part with significant prospects/picks/roster players, or disgustingly overpay a mediocre FA...

Karlssonlee 07-02-2011 04:06 PM

Filatov - Spezza - Michalek
Greening - Regin - Alfredsson
Foligno - Da Costa - Butler
Z.Smith - Winchester - Neil

* Condra, send him down to Bingo and allow him to assert himself as the go-to-guy on offense

Phillips - Lee
Cowen - Gonchar
Kuba - Karlsson

* Rundblad first callup, let him adjust to the size of the rink in Bingo. Play a role like Karlsson did his first season, bouncing between Bingo and Ottawa

I really like these pairings. I think this is what we should put out IF we can get rid of Kuba. Otherwise, we should keep Kuba and let Rundblad develop slowly.

Why do so many people still put Michalek on Spezza's wing? After all this time, they still have zero chemistry. I think it wiser to put Michalek on the second line and another winger (Alfie/Butler) alongside Filatov and Spezza.

Alfie/Butler play on the right side...Michalek naturally plays on the right side but been put on the left wing since he joined Ottawa.

Which wing does Filatov play? If he earns a spot on the roster and he plays left wing I wouldn't be opposed to trying it out, but MacLean will decide what works best for this team now.

Quick question about the contracts of Rundblad and Cowen (didn't know where to put this, figured it might work in this thread). On capgeek, it says Cowen has 3 years left on his entry level, and Rundblad has two. Shouldn't Rundblad have three years since he hasn't played yet? And if Cowen doesn't play this year in the NHL, then he'd still have three years starting next seasons, right?

I always thought that your entry level contract only kicks in after you've played more than 9 games in the NHL, though I could be very wrong.

ReginKarlssonLehner 07-02-2011 09:01 PM

Will Zibanejad be in the Nhl next year is the big question.

Robin Lehner* 07-02-2011 09:18 PM

This is what I would like to see
(Assuming Zibby comes over)

Filatov-Spezza-Butler
Alfredsson-Zibanejad-Michalek
Greening-Regin-Foligno
Neil-Smith-(I don't know)

Phillips-Karlsson
Gonchar-Cowen
Lee-Rundblad

Anderson
Auld

sgcolin 07-02-2011 09:54 PM

Filatov | Spezza | Butler
Michalek | Regin | Alfredsson
Foligno | Smith | Neil
Greening | Winchester | Condra
Da Costa

Da Costa/Regin fight for 2nd line center spot if no one is signed.

Phillips | Karlsson
Cowen | Gonchar
Kuba | Lee
Carkner

Rundblad in minors until he either dominates or Kuba is traded.

Anderson
Auld

We got the backup I wanted!

Obvious lack of top line wingers and 2nd line center, but a decent team.

One line that I will die to see for the season after this one is the

Silverberg-Zibenajed- Yakupov line

That line will just piss coaches off and would be an amazing 2nd line if we end up with Yapukov.

Top 6 would look like dis.

Filatov-Spezza-Michalek (Skill with speed and a puck possesion line)
Silverberg-Zibanejad- Yakupov ( The everything line, size, speed, skill that will be a pain in the ass to play against) I can endure another season of crappyness to see this line in the future.

Foligno- Regin/DaCosta/Hoffman- Butler ( A scoring 3rd line, all contenders have a line like this in their bottom 6)
Greening-Smith- Neil ( Crashing bodies, high energy with 3 guys that have a crazy motor)

Anyone else find it odd that Bobby Butler was never listed on nhl.com as a free agent? Perhaps this means he's already signed a new contract...

I always thought that your entry level contract only kicks in after you've played more than 9 games in the NHL, though I could be very wrong.

It depends on the age of the player. Both Cowen and Lehner's contracts slide because (a) they didn't play in 10 NHL games, and (b) they didn't turn 20 prior to December 31, 2010.

Rundblad turned 20 in October, 1990, so there is no contract slide. Basically, that means for entry-level contract purposes, he was 20 years old - and no player's contract slides if they are 20 years old or more. The wording is "...except this automatic extension will not apply to a Player who is 19 according to section 9.2 by virtue of turning 20 between September 16 and December 31 in which he first signs an SPC."

It's section 9.1 (d) of the Collective bargaining agreement.

Got this answer too:

Ah perfect.

2009 draftees and Capgeek
Cowen, Jan 1991 = 3 yr ELC intact
Silfverberg, Oct 1990 = 3 yr ELC intact
D.Rundblad, Oct 1990 = only 2 yrs remaining on ELC. What the heck?

Cowen signed his NHL contract at the age of 18. Rundblad signed his at the age of 19. Silfverberg just signed his contract this summer at age 20. [all ages by CBA definition]

a) Players who sign at 18 can slide a year, then slide again at age 19 if they slid when 18.

b) Players who sign at 19 can only slide a year if they were born on Sep 15th or earlier. Players who were born between Sep 16th and Dec 31st--i.e. they'll turn 20 shortly into their first contracted season--are not eligible to slide.

Rundblad fell under situation (b) and didn't slide due to his birthday. If he had been originally signed at age 18 then he would have fallen under situation (a) and eligible to slide his 19 year old season like Rob Shearer did. Cowen slid twice under situation (a), but had he been signed at age 19 he would have been eligible to slide since his birthday fell outside of the Sep 16th to Dec 31st restriction.

I've been noticing what seems to be a larger number of 18 year signees with Sep 16 to Dec 31st birthdays in recent years that have little hope to immediately make the NHL. Perhaps teams are picking up on the fact it gives them the option to double-slide the players' ELCs, including the second year in the AHL.

Which would make him a Group II free agent, but for some reason he doesn't show up on the nhl.com website as such.

I'm sure it's just an oversite on the NHL's part, or perhaps he's already signed but it hasn't been announced yet...just thought it was interesting.

We need a number 2 center soooooo bad - if/when Spezza gets injured it will be even uglier.

What side do Rundblad and Gonchar play? - I have seen then listed on both

Looking at those...man, I don't see how we're gonna be anything but dead last. Unless Anderson pulls off a miracle every night.

Yakupov!
