Semin to Nashville?
 

After seeing the preds clear cap room with the Franson deal yesterday, I couldn't help but think that they may be chasing an elite scorer in the trade market. How would Semin work? The Caps would undoubtebly want a 2nd line scorer (preferably center) in return, but you guys have a bounty of solid prospects so something could probably be worked out. With some Trotz discipline I think Semin would be a very solid player in your system. So, what would the Preds be willing to give up for Semin (if there's any interest)?

I was speculating about this aswell, i'm pretty sure that you would have a chance at one of our elite prospects like Ryan Ellis. But I think that the main thing we could offer is draft picks packaged with prospects. I'm not sure what we would package together, but if Semin became available and Poile was interested then I think something could be worked out.

I would be genuinely shocked if we traded anything of value for Semin.

I would love Semin, hes what we need. But id rather trade for a player of his caliber that is more consistent and lets say (not Russian).

I was just suggesting this in another thread. Is there a link to a rumor on this or are you just suggesting it as well?

Semins availability is questionable if Washington intends to go for it and its obvious they are going to do so.

by getting vokoun for cheap they have no really glaring need that they would be forced to dump a guy like Semin for in order to be able to sign somebody.

I cant see us trading for a guy making 6.7 mil and then having be a UFA next year.

If we trade for a big dollars guy he's gonna be signed for a while or an RFA at the end of his current deal.

Room is to sign Weber and the RFAs... I don't think they have the room to go and get a major forward.

Just suggesting it. Might be more likely he goes to a team trying to reach floor that also has a 2c of value. Its far more likely Fehr/Schultz/Chimera get traded than a big name like Semin

Well there are some concrete rumours that Semin is up for trade. Apparantly several sources are hearing rumours that Habs, Preds, Leafs, Flyers and Pens are interested.

If thats the case then that trade will end up being god awful

If our budget limit is the midpoint, then we absolutely have that money to spend.

$6.5M to Weber and $6.5M to the four RFAs puts us just above the floor, so we have plenty of money to go after a scorer. One has to assume that the cap will jump big-time with the US TV contract increasing in excess of 300%, meaning the midpoint will also move up, meaning we should have plenty of money to retain Rinne and Suter, as well.

Personally, I will be very disappointed if we just spend to the floor this year, whether we extend Rinne and Suter or not.

Exactly. I, for one, think there is something bigger. If not, I can see Poile getting soundly boo'ed at the Skate of the Union
