He looked good in his 2 starts in Hamilton and I heard a lot of high praise for his play in the ECHL this year. I figured he would get signed.

habster 07-05-2011 08:43 AM

Watch out Carey, you have competition :sarcasm:

Frankc 07-05-2011 08:44 AM

Maybe a late bloomer? Because honestly before his season in the ECHL his stats wasn't really impressive (save%). Any of you saw him play a few times?

Prrebel 07-05-2011 08:49 AM

Who was the big kid the Habs drafted a couple of years ago? He was a goalie and he stood about 6'7''.

Cupmonger 07-05-2011 08:52 AM

Don't we have Karri Ramo as another available goalie?

Petteri Simila? Or Jason Missiaen? Both huge, terrible goalies whose rights we've since forfeited, I believe :)

He re-upped in the KHL for 2 more years. So we have his rights, but he's not really "available".

Habitants 07-05-2011 08:57 AM

not bad depth signing but imo could still do better.

After tryout last year with habs, he did play in hamilton for a couple games

From HockeysFuture 7.0c former 2nd rnd pick by Colorado

Quote:

A solid, positional goaltender, Delmas is unflappable between the pipes and plays a mature, steady game beyond his years. Always square to the shooter, he never gives up on the puck and possesses a quick glove, but at times he struggles controlling rebounds. Though he has settled down from his rookie year, Delmas is sometimes a bit too adventurous in and around the net and doesn’t have the quickness and agility to always make up for his aggressiveness.
would still like to see Jeff Deslauriers as Hamilton starter..

GoHomez 07-05-2011 08:58 AM

Drafted by the Avs, no?
Three years seems like at least one too many but anyway, hopefully he pans out in the AHL.

What about Drew MacIntyre, will he gone now?

Habs 07-05-2011 09:00 AM

If we are ok with pulling guys out of the beer leagues, I have a few friends who also want to play for Hamilton.

The description in HockeysFuture you quote makes him sound like Tim Thomas.:D

Teams don't have a choice on how many years ELC's get, they are based off birthyear to figure out how many years they get.

MacIntyre is a UFA at this point, hopefully he's brought back, we have to find one more goalie at some point.

Mathradio 07-05-2011 09:09 AM

Finally, someone in the goalie pipeline before we get Subban next year!

Thanks, didn't realize he is still on his ELC.
Not that it really matter given his cap hit, I was just a bit surprised at the length.

Thanks. Missiaen it was.

Really? It says he's "steady beyond his years."

If that were Tim Thomas, what would that mean he plays like? A 72-year-old?

You are remembering (correctly) how terrible he was in Halifax and in the Q in general after he was drafted 61 (2nd round) by Colorado in the 2008 draft. However, he also battled injuries during those years so this is the first real year where he has been relatively injury free. The results were .928 in 28 games in the ECHL and .933 in two games in the AHL - numbers more representative of a 2nd round draft choice. In any case, he can't be worse than Robert Mayer. Hopefully, the Habs will resign Drew McIntyre to a have a ready 3rd string backup.

I think they are signing him to battle Mayer for the #2 job. They'll probably sign MacIntyre or a comparable guy with NHL experience as the #1.

Player 61 07-05-2011 09:56 AM

This guy should backup McIntyre, so who cares.
