Maybe he'll go spend it at a certain car dealership and help a brother out :sarcasm:

Exactly and I don't really have a problem with it.

I agree.

Meh. Dollars and term don't seem out of wack. He shouldn't be too hard to move if we decide to do that at a later date.

Still more then I'd like to spend on him, but I figured it would be along these dollars and terms.

I'd like to act excited. But I'm not. I'm pretty apathetic over this one.

Arch City Zach 07-05-2011 04:19 PM

Whoa! I mean...I feel like he's worth it, but he's still a bit unproven. But hey, if that's what it takes to lock him in for four years, rock on!

Hipster Letestu 07-05-2011 04:22 PM

Seems steep to me, especially for a guy that puts up almost no points.

Nordique 07-05-2011 04:23 PM

This move had to happen, given Hejda's departure. Good signing imo. Methot, is a young, healthy, solid top 4 dman. I'm glad to have him locked up for 4 more years.

what's the blue line looking like now?

Methot - ?
Tyutin - Wisniesky
Russel - Clitsome

Roadman 07-05-2011 04:26 PM

Guess that tells us what Arniel thinks of him. Must have really been impressed with his performance at the worlds.

Hope he continues to improve like he did last year.

Jaxs 07-05-2011 04:27 PM

After losing Hejda and no replacement, they couldn't risk losing the only stay at home type dman, funny it came the same day he filed for arbitration. Little bit high dollar wise, but he is a decent second pairing guy.

He looked very good at the worlds.

Methot's problem has always been that he's one of those "Aha!" guys. He'll bounce around and make mistakes that look like they'll never get fixed, then he has an "aha!" moment and everything comes together. He was like that in London, he was like that in Syracuse, and we can only hope that the worlds was that moment for Columbus.

It was the last day he could file so he was just protecting himself incase something happened.

Maybe playing on the left side will help, like Arniel was saying after WC's.

4/5 with some potential. However, we'll play him higher than he should be. He hasn't done anything that would make me want to lock him up for 8 years. "Had to happen".... Letting decisions on player occur because of the movement of another player? Not a good reason. Players should live and die on their own merits.

He's little help in the offensive zone. We're paying 3 million for a defensive d-man with some mobility and puck moving skills, who's ok on the PK, and little to no help on the PP. He's not really good enough, yet, to match up against the opposing teams top players. I'm not sure he ever will be.

Hopefully he has something else to show us, because he's really not a bargain @ 3 million per. Not really over priced by that much either. Don't get me wrong, he's not a bad player. But I have yet to see anything that can't be replaced with any real difficulty.

I'm sure your right. It also may have motivated Howson to get er done!

And maybe Stralman's issue was just sinus's infections. I hate these little searches for simple answers.

Honestly, he's an ok player, so I'm not all that concerned about it. He just adds to an average to below average group of players that we surrounded Wisniewski, and to a lesser extent Tyutin, with.

I guess what I really want to say here is, at least this wasn't Hejda that got this contract.

Hope he has something else to show us, otherwise I'll grow tired of his contract in a couple of years.

We have too many returning members from that defensive group from last year. 4? Too many unless we add two more D and have Russ as the 7th D. From what Howson is saying, that isn't going to happen. But he's always had more faith in this group than I have understood.

In all honestly, Methot is less the issue and Russ is more of the issue.

IMO very good sign. When I see the salary of players in this summer so I think Howsie made a good work.

According to Arny, he was a beast in Slovakia. I know he isn't going to be the shut down guy that the CBJ have never had. I am glad he is re-upped, I like the progress he has made the last couple of years. Whether or not playing on the left side helps his game remains to be seen, it was said by hc SA so I posted it.

Like I said the contract seems a little high $ wise.

Yeah, I don't know he got anything over 2 per year.

I saw all Canadian games and I must say Methot played very good, really I was pleasant shocked. Especially his skating I thought he will have problems and he did not have.

dru 07-05-2011 04:55 PM

Wowzers. I like you Marc but you and I both know you're not worth 3 million per. Congrats on your big payday. I hope management is planning on putting him one of those machines I've seen in the Captain America trailer because he needs to be a super soldier for that much coin.

CBJ = ATM

It's like sleeping on different sides of the bed. When we moved overseas last year, we had to switch sides of the bed, as we'd done in the previous move. I'm fine on either side, but the wife has some bizarre anxiety issue about sleeping too close to a window. Defensemen are like that sometimes; they can look like dismembered poultry on one side of the ice and like Ray Bourque on the other.

Every report I saw from Slovakia was glowing and specifically singled out Methot for his stellar play. He really stumbled down the stretch, so to quickly recover and exceed his prior level of play at the end of a season says something.

Or didn't happen.

I'm good with this signing. I liked what Meth brought to the ice last season, and he's still young so there's room for further growth.

Now we need to get RJ locked up long-term.
