And cue the panic....

Paranoid Android 07-05-2011 03:34 PM

Uh oh...

how would you define "short term" 3 years? 2 years? 1?

I'd sign him for 3, but if he only wants 2 then we should seriously consider a trade.

I Will Son 07-05-2011 03:34 PM

aoh...

alexmanu 07-05-2011 03:35 PM

If it's 3 years, sign him. If it's less then let's get Stamkos :D

I think that would be what I would do to. If he doesnt want long term, trade him and get a fat return

worstfaceoffmanever 07-05-2011 03:35 PM

Anything less than four years, and I say trade him.

My reaction upon hearing this:
:scared:
then

We could tender him a day late.:sarcasm:

If it's less than 4, give Suter the money and get a return. This is not a Dan Hamhuis scenario.

Tend to think this is posturing if indeed it is accurate.

ThirdManIn 07-05-2011 03:51 PM

I'd imagine he is looking for a 2-3 year deal so that he can see the steps the organization is taking to improve and become a legitimate Cup favorite. He doesn't want to get locked into a contract that will leave him as a veteran hoping to be dealt to a contender at the deadline. I can't blame him.

edit: this is assuming Strickland is correct.

Enoch 07-05-2011 03:54 PM

If less than 4-5, you trade. There are no other options IMO.

JohniusMaximus 07-05-2011 04:00 PM

Oh, for the love of...

I'm with the above. Less than 4 then get some firepower.

randymc2641 07-05-2011 04:01 PM

This could be 8 or 9 years vs 5 or 6 years, holding off on this one, but I say under 4 trade too.

It's twitter.

It's Andy Strickland, one of the most reputable hockey journalists on the planet.

So, um......probably shouldn't have given away Franson, eh?

I hope he re-signs in Smashville. If not, a Parise for Weber deal?

Awesome. I'm not saying he's wrong....I'm saying it's still a rumor at this point.

Now if Weber tweeted such a thing, I think there would be more reason to panic.

Jarnberg 07-05-2011 04:10 PM

If true he probably needs to be traded.

Franson, as good of a shot as he has, is not a replacement in any way, shape, or form for Weber.

If Weber is gone in a year or two, there's nothing Cody Franson could do to really fill in the void.

Not a direct replacement but he was more defensive depth.

Broom of the System 07-05-2011 04:12 PM

Yeah, if he wants three or less trade him. For Parise please.

No no, I just meant regarding their friendship. Cody couldn't hold Shea's jockstrap

randymc2641 07-05-2011 04:15 PM

2 years gets him to UFA...hmmm....

I don't know how he would know anything such as this because only the player, his agent and the front office would be involved with negotiations. The Preds don't negotiate through the media, Weber doesn't say jack which leaves the agent whom I suppose could be posturing. I'm not sure what advantage any of the parties involved with negotiating a deal would gain by revealing this info to Strickland, unless it were to get teams interested in trading for Weber. Other than that that, I'm not really sure what to think.
