Derek Whitmore re-signed by Sabres

Per Bill Hoppe:
"I can report the #Sabres have re-signed #Rochester native Derek Whitmore. He quietly had 27 goals w/Portland last season. #Buffalo"

Hey......here's some scoring for Rochester.........

Whitmore will certainly help the offense. I gotta think a playmaking center for the Amerks is next on darcy's radar.

Right now by my count Adam and Turnbull (If he accepts his QO) are the only centers on the Amerk roster. Ellis could be a 3rd line option. I'd feel better if another top 6 center and wing were brought in, in addition to Kotalik.

I suppose Whitmore's bride will have to get used to her inlaws. :biglaugh:

As for a center, I would expect Varone at the prospects camp to be in an open audition for a deal right now similar to Roloff, but that doesn't fix the offensive hole either.

Per Kevin O, $95K AHL/$525K NHL on a one year deal.

I do believe that makes Whitmore the highest paid AHL player the Sabres have had in the organization in years.

Mancari made $105K just last year.

I'm pretty sure they had a few guys at the $105,000 waiver threshold last season.

$95,000 really is pretty low for guys not on entry level deals. Most of the top AHL guys are going for 200K plus these days.

When MacIntyre's contract details come out, I'd be shocked if he took less than 105K. He was making half a million last season on a 1 way deal and 200 grand on a two way deal two seasons ago.

His 27 goals certainly went quietly over my head. No ****? Who were his linemates

mechaphil 07-06-2011 11:34 PM

OK never mind...went digging through Cap Geek and apparently $100K isn't rare. Apparently $250K vets are the big deal.

Too bad there are so many other prospects ahead of him in terms of call-ups. Maybe he'll get lucky and get a game in the NHL sometime but I doubt it.

I think he'll end up being a career AHL'er. Not bad for someone like him, but he might give the AHL a few more cracks then jump across the pond to Europe.

I don't think he'll ever get a real shot at the NHL.

Cool! I like Whitmore. Very good AHL player. Some of my friends go to church with him and said he's a really good guy, too.

Like others have said, I hope he gets an NHL game sometime.
