Capitals Acquire a Fourth-Round Draft Pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft and Right Wing Danick Paquette from Winnipeg for Right Wing Eric Fehr

So long Eric. Glad you're getting a chance in your hometown.

Capitlols 07-08-2011 04:05 PM

Blah, anyone know anything on Paquette?

Pest with some skills, if I remember correctly. I'll grab the old Hockey News and confirm.

EroCaps 07-08-2011 04:07 PM

...What?

Paquette better be legit. Edit---he's the Jet's 19th ranked prospect...

NobodyBeatsTheWiz 07-08-2011 04:10 PM

Wasn't in THN's top 100 for the 2008 draft, but found this thread on him from a while back:

He's not. He had 20 points in the ECHL last year.

Weak trade, but I guess Fehr had little value at this point. I'll be rooting for him.

Dannick Paquette 6'0 210lbs, RW

Paquette is a perfect example of a player that teams love to have on their own side, but hate to play against. Perhaps the only thing more agitating than his gritty style of play is the fact he also has the ability to bury the puck and make the opposition pay for their mistakes and indiscretions. A burly forward, Paquette’s game is raw and his discipline is sometimes lacking. He drives the net with fervor, but his skating needs work.

He will have to be more disciplined at the next level, but without neglecting that antagonism which has made him an effective player. Paquette must be more committed to training and working on his fitness level if he is to advance to the next level.
Fwiw the #19 prospect for the Jets(worst prospect)

You are correct, pest/fighter/borderline player when he was in the Q; IIRC, there were reports that he grew up a bit and had more balance overall in his game, but that's his game.

fsnoles98 07-08-2011 04:10 PM

a 4th and a pest that played in the ECHL the entire year last year.

BrooklynCapsFan 07-08-2011 04:11 PM

Good on Mcphee for sending Fehr home. Not thrilled about the return, but I'm glad to know he's no longer here...as the way we used him was infuriating.

Millhaus 07-08-2011 04:12 PM

Boudreau was never going to give Fehr a real chance so this doesn't surprise me at all, except that I figured McPhee would wait until he was healthy enough to get a better return.

EroCaps 07-08-2011 04:13 PM

I don't understand the lack of appreciation for Fehr from management. He was always in Bruce's doghouse whereas Flash could do no wrong.

I hope this means they're bringing back Hannan or signing a Vet F for cheap because this stinks as a salary dump.

Kind of agree, wishful thinking I thought he could fetch a 2nd at worst a 3rd. Guess the Caps had no leverage.

Ovechkins Wodka 07-08-2011 04:15 PM

pretty bad return. if we waited till the deadline we could have gotten much higher return. always like fehr and sucks to see him go as a salary dump. makes me not like the ward signing

So the whole concept of coaches having favorites and those they don't care for is too complex?

Millhaus 07-08-2011 04:16 PM

I think the return had something to do with McPhee doing Fehr a solid and sending him home.

fsnoles98 07-08-2011 04:17 PM

I can only hope this guy turns out to be a Kaminiski/Verot type of player.

But they did. Plenty of time and Fehr is a young 20 goal scorer. This makes no sense isolated.

Paquette is nobody. This is your salary dump. Fine with me. I like Fehr but think the injuries will preclude him from ever being worthwhile.

Who has two busted shoulders, making 2+, coming off a bad season.

The Caps had no leverage.

He essentially did fetch a 3rd. A 4th plus a prospect is pretty much equivalent to a 3rd.

This seems to me like a combination of a salary dump and McPhee doing a Fehr a solid by sending him home. He deserved one, considering how he was completely frozen out of a scoring role on the team.

Or maybe he just didn't have the value around the league that we thought.

Whopper88 07-08-2011 04:20 PM

Sucks that he was traded to a team in the same division, but I am glad that GMGM traded him to a team he wanted to go to. Let's hope the Jets realign to another division next year so that I can root for Fehr again. Good luck EF!

Capitlols 07-08-2011 04:20 PM

Tbh though, I was never a Fehr fan. Was very underwhelmed by him in his tenure here, the return is what it is I suppose.

cleaver 07-08-2011 04:23 PM

With Poti on LTIR and King stashed I've got $3,907,372 cap room.
