NCAA Major Shakeup in Conferences

I know most won't really be interested in this, but the NCAA is under going a major shakeup in their conferences, it won't go in effect until the 2013-2014 season but guys like Didier (Denver), MacMillan (North Dakota), Cichy (Western Michigan) and Sullivan (Yale) will be impacted by this unless they leave school early. Bennett would be as well if he were to stay at Michigan till his Senior year plus any NCAA bound prospects we draft in the next few years.

For those that don't know, the NCAA will have a new conference for the 2013 season, as the big 10 conference will be added. Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State will be leaving the CCHA for the Big Ten. Minnesota and Wisconsin will be leaving the WCHA for the Big 10 and Penn State will be moving up to Div 1 for the 1st time and will be apart of the Big 10.

So that leaves the top 2 conferences in the NCAA with some big holes, as the CCHA will lose it's best program and the WCHA will lose two of it's most well known programs as well. So a new conference has been proprosed this weekend.

Collorado College, Denver, UMD, North Dakota and Nebraska-Omaha from the WCHA and Miami from the CCHA want to join together in a new conference. So then the question becomes, what will happen to the rest of the WCHA and CCHA, perhaps they will merge into a 10 team conference.

As of now the Hockey East, ECAC, and Atlantic conferences will not be effected by this but who knows what other changes will end up happening as they work this out.

I haven't followed NCAA hockey the last couple years, but it sounds like a "fun" shakeup. If it makes the brands more accessible, and the competition a little stiffer, that is probably overall good. Not so good for a few programs, maybe, (Notre Dame?) but I imagine they'll eventually all shake things out to balance up again.

So in other words some other clubs in lower leagues have moved up to the NCAA to make it more competitive and more accessible to American's in other parts of the country?

Sorry I'm not sure I follow 100%

Off-topic, but was Genoway signed by an NHL team?

I'd give him a training camp invite.

It will be interesting to see how it all ends up and what impact it has on auto bids for the frozen four tournament, if any. If they do have Noth Dakota and Miami in the same conference that would be one tough conference with DU in there as well.

Well just one club from the lower leagues has moved up to Div 1, the rest are being shuffled around in new conferences. Only one new conference has been confirmed, another has been proposed and if that goes through, then big questions will remain for the WCHA and CCHA. The WCHA is often considered the best conference in college hockey since it usually has the most NHL draft picks, so seeing a big shake up in the WCHA is a bit of a surprise.

Genoway signed with the Wild.
