J.T. Miller has Change of Heart, Going to OHL not NCAA

I for one am VERY happy :handclap:

I know this was of big discussion when he was drafted about him going to the NCAA

Sorry North Dakota!

SERE 24 07-14-2011 03:43 PM

Wow, I'm kind of surprised. Will likely be to our benefit though and probably means he's eager to play in the NHL so hopefully he works his tail off and plays like a monster.

WhipNash27 07-14-2011 03:45 PM

Think the Rangers were involved in this decision?

Yup, 100%.

Barbara Underhill 07-14-2011 03:50 PM

Not entirely shocked, someone said at the time he was drafted that he would consider playing in Canada if the team wanted him too.

I actually expected it and was more shocked when they said he was going to ND. I like it.

Whaleharp 07-14-2011 03:50 PM

This is very good news. This offseason has been getting better and better. When Dubinsky and Callahan get signed for manageable deals, I will grade it an A. :handclap:

XLJ 07-14-2011 03:52 PM

He said he wants to turn pro next year. So playing in the OHL for a year is probably the better option.

Well wouldn't it be Rangers or bust next year if he wanted to turn pro (won't be old enough to play in the AHL)? So I think he may be in store for 2 years in the OHL.

Excellent news in my opinion.

He wasn't drafted from the OHL so he is not held to the 2 year rule

Not that happy with this. NoDak is a top notch developmental school with a proven track record of developing really, really good players. Miller is the prototypical guy who would benefit greatly in college. I just don't see how the OHL helps his development at all.

BlueshirtBlitz 07-14-2011 04:08 PM

Not a fan of this. Now if he blows away the OHL (or if he does because he's a big guy) he's stuck there, since we can't bring him to the AHL. Oh well, here's hoping he puts up gaudy numbers and takes over as our number 1 prospect. ;). (kidding kidding, sorta.)

RGY 07-14-2011 04:09 PM

Is there an OHL team that he is leaning towards?

Plymouth has his rights.

Who does Plymouth have on their roster?

Good luck to JT but as far as North Dakota developing players for the NHL you need to only look to the Devils with Parise and Zajac. Oh and then there is that one guy name Toews who isn't to bad either. Wish him nothing but the best but being a season ticket holder for the Fighting Sioux I am a bit bitter with the Rangers right now.

Stefan Noesen (Ottawa 2011 1st round pick) and Richard Rakell (Anaheim 2011 1st round pick).

Totally agree.

Nice, a top RWer, and a Center. JT will fit perfect on the left side.

TheRedViper 07-14-2011 04:25 PM

I can't really say whether iboreder him at UND or in the OHL, but I am
definately happy with the decision as I'll be able to catch all of his games now :)

A guy named Tyler Seguin played for Plymouth also, he looks like he could be a keeper.

I think I am missing something. I thought that the OHL was a high level of competition and fastest way to turn pro. Isn't that good?

Usually most will agree. OHL is definitely the way to go IMO rather then the NCAA where it takes longer to develop since you usually dont start off your first year getting much ice time, and there is far fewer games.

I'd prefer the NCAA to the QMJHL though.

But, the Rangers view him as a center.

Ah really? I read so much back and forth stuff what player is playing what these days when it comes to the forward position. I'll take your word on it then.
