New CBS Article On Stoll Having The Best Shootout Year Ever

During the 2010-11 season, Stoll, a member of the Los Angeles Kings, was called on by head coach Terry Murray 10 times and managed to convert on nine of them -- including his final seven attempts -- a success rate of 90 percent for the season. I went back to the 2005-06 season (the year the shootout was put in place) and put together a list of every player that attempted a mininum of eight shots in a single season (250) to see how that 90 percent mark stacked up. It turned out to be the best mark in the history of the shootout at the NHL level, and by a pretty decent margin.

Amazing.

He may truly be the #1 reason that they made the playoffs.

Telos 07-17-2011 12:09 AM

The videos of his attempts are weak. Someone really needs to make a video that contains every single one of his goals/attempts for his record year.

CNS 07-17-2011 12:45 AM

If only he can hit the net during regulation :sarcasm:

etherialone 07-17-2011 12:49 AM

Impressive numbers by a stretch.

Wow.

Nose of Sutter 07-17-2011 12:50 AM

We need to get that guy from Zoolander that hypnotizes Ben Stiller to hypnotize Stoll to think every shot is in the shootout.

Kill the naughty man
All shots are shoot outs

The prime minster is a naughty man

Kill the naughty man Stoll
All shots are shoot outs
the prime minster is a shot
SHOOT THE PUCK!!!

Stoll's shootout success may have uncovered his secret weapon. It's not his slap shot that is deadly, it's his wrist shot. There were a few times last season that he was able to score with a long wrist shot. The coaches have to get him to use his wrister more so than his slapper.

I was actually working on that. I stopped because school kept me busy.

I will try to finish the video. I'm trying to make the vid really good with music but Windows Movie Maker is poop. :(

(Windows Movie Maker is what actually makes me stop making videos they all turn out horrible. I have a lot of unfinished videos.)

Would you guys like to see how I'm trying to make the video? I'll upload a test video.

It would be like Groundhog Day, every attempt is the same. ;)

I *think* he actually scored 8 in a row to end the season

ibleedkings 07-17-2011 10:12 AM

Funny thing is he scored every one the same, top shelf. I never saw a deke one time.

Mugatu? Stoll was amazing in the SO. Not only 9 of 10 but he was using the same shot each time-can't stop a perfect shot.

Yeah! Mugatu!

Ironically wasn't the only time he missed, the time he tried to deke?

Pretty sure he never missed when he just shot it top shelf
Think it was against Backstom when he missed.

(correct me if i'm wrong)

Spot on. However in my opinion Stoll doesn't have the required offensive qualities to find himself in wrist shot situations during the game often enough. Those chances will remain very limited.

If he can find himself open in the high slot, Brad Richardson can get him the puck while Clifford sets up the screen in front. I think that trio can click offensively while also playing responsible defensively. The problem with Stoll is that he is usually the first attacker in on the fore check.

It may serve him better to be the high forward (or F2 in coach terminology) while Brad Richardson is F1 (the chasing forward). Richardson's speed does cause turnovers, as we saw in the Vancouver series last year when he stripped Alberts of the puck and caught Luongo sleeping.
