Our PP?

We have more than enough forwards to make two good PP unit, but what about our D. What will we do this season with Markov and Subban?

They should both be on the first unit, but they both like to play on the left side on the PP. Will we have to split them up? Or Markov will take the right side?

Subban-Markov
XXX-Weber

or

Markov-Weber
Subban-XXX

My guess is option number one, but I'd like to know what you guys think...

I think Hal Gill should play all the positions on the powerplay.

Markov - Yemelin
Subban - Weber

Would be my guess. The only reason Yemelin's on the PP is because he has a good slapper. That's all and everything Markov needs.

Spacek is probably going to play on the pp.
I also heard that Yemelin has a powerful slap shot. He could be an option.

markov-Subban
they can play on their respective side. Markov will probably sneak to the net a lot this season.

spacek/emelin-weber

This thread has me thinking of our pp in general.
Maybe a set up like this is possible

First Unit:
Cole-Pleck-Gio
Markov-Cammy

Second Unit:
Kost-Gomez/Desharnais-Max
Subban-Weber/Yemelin

Thats just my set up. I think JM will go with

Cole-Pleck-Cammy
Markov-Subban

Max-gomez-Gio
Spacek-Weber

Emelin if given a chance will surprise everyone, even on the powerplay. He`s a little like Markov sneaks in at the right time can make cross ice passes. He has decent slapshot and great wrist shot with a quick release. It`s all up to JM if he lets him play and doesn`t sit him everytime he makes a mistake then should be all right.

I agree with this. Both units are gonna be rollin'. The PP is gonna be more dangerous than ever

This. Both units are gonna be excellent. Our PP is gonna be ever more dangerous than ever. The amount of shooting options is just gonna be too much to handle

Forsead 07-20-2011 06:30 PM

Well Subban, Markov are great, Weber is known for been an effective PP guy, Emelin could also be use there and don't forget that Gorges is often use on the second wave to be the defensive guy on his pairing and he can move the puck well. Finally, Spacek is a guy with alot of PP experience and pehaps he will be able to regain a part of his old form there.

RoyBoyCoy 07-20-2011 06:32 PM

Cole - Plekanec - Cammalleri
Subban - Markov

Pacioretty - Gomez (Desharnais if Gomez continues suckage) - Gionta
Yemelin - Weber

Mathradio 07-20-2011 06:34 PM

This is going to be one good season for the PP...

And he has Markov to mentor him. /mindblown

If he can become 1/5th the play Markov is it's win.

Subban and Weber are your trigger men. They have the most powerful shots from the backend.

Markov is a smart enough player that he can play both LD and RD on the power play. He'll have a field day setting up Subban for one time slappers. He also has a decent shot so if they cheat on Subban he can shoot... or pass it cross-ice... I predict a huge year for our PP once again.

Pacioretty and Cole need to be in front of the net. I'd go:

Pacioretty Plekanec Cammalleri
Subban Markov

Cole Gomez Gionta
Weber Spacek

Kostitsyn, Eller, Desharnais can fill in.

Gally11 07-20-2011 06:42 PM

I think I'd definitely try markov subban experiment but its clear both markov and subban are more comfortable on same side, be nice to see how markov feels on right I don't really ever remember him there

Talks to Goalposts 07-20-2011 06:43 PM

The two forward groups will probably be interchangeable depending on who is fresher to start.

Plekanec (left side and slot) - Kostitsyn/Cole (in front of or behind net) - Cammaleri (right half wal shooterl)

Gionta (left side and slot) - Pacioretty (in front of or behind net) - Gomez/Desharnais (half wall playmaker)

I think Markov and Subban will be tried together to start. Subban was fine on the right-side with Wisniewski on the left and should still be able to get one-timers off from Markov passes. Any loss in point shot efficency should be made up by having two dominant threats from the blueline resulting in a very large amount of potential plays. They can also exchange positions during the play to put Subban in a better shooting spot.

The second pairing is 2 of Spacek, Yemelin and Weber, whoever ends up winning the spot. They won't see much time with Markov and Subban playing though.

The fact most people don't have Desharnais and Kostitsyn on their PP units is a testament to our offensive depth. I mean those guys would make every 2nd PP units in the league but ours... We have a lot of all-out offensive forwards.

Look at Sergei K.. he never had any PP time here because of our depth. On Nashville he plays top PP and it's not like they have a lottery team... they reached the 2nd round which is better than us.

5 out of 7 defensemen have absolute lasers from the point... add in Gill who can rip it but doesn't have any accuracy... well Gorges can shoot as well but let's not go there.

Subban, Weber, Emelin, Markov, Spacek... damn.

We should use him in front of the net just like Big Buff, and put either Cammy or Kostitsyn at the point. :sarcasm:

Crusher20 07-20-2011 07:09 PM

Question i never tought about is Yemelin calder bound?

The voting is pretty heavily biased towards point totals and Markov/Subban is going to get the bulk of the PP time so probably not even if he was objectively speaking the best rookie in the league.

Subnordi 07-20-2011 07:26 PM

Maybe

Gionta-Plekanec-Cammalleri
Subban-Weber

Pacioretty-Gomez-Cole
Markov-Yemelin

Maybe a 3rd forward unit that looks something like

Desharnais-Eller-Kostitsyn

We have nine forwards capable of playing the powerplay.

If markov clicks with emelin everything is possible! The question is, is he elligible? I think not isnt the calder only for rookie players under 25 years?

I hope our pp is middle of the pack this year and the focus is on 5vw5 scoring, but I doubt that will be the case.

How about we get a top 5 PP and top 5 scoring 5 on 5.

And top 5 PK. That would make us a #1-2 league though

If you're great at PP and 5 on 5, the only way you could be losing games is by having the highest penalties in the league and worst PK

I prefer not to rely on the pp, if it does good, great, but our focus needs to be on 5vs5 play where year after year we are putrid.
