MONTREAL -- Montreal Canadiens general manager Pierre Gauthier announced Friday the appointment of Clément Jodoin as head coach of the American Hockey League’s Hamilton Bulldogs.

“Clément Jodoin is back with the Canadiens organization and we are very pleased with this announcement today. Clément has close to 30 years of experience in hockey, and his reputation speaks for itself. His expertise and knowledge of the game will prove to be valuable assets for our organization. Clément had the chance to work with several young players during his coaching career and we are very pleased that our organization will again benefit from his experience,” said Canadiens general manager Pierre Gauthier.

In 2010-11 Jodoin completed his fourth season as head coach of the Rimouski Oceanic and his 10th season as a head coach in the QMJHL. During his 4-year tenure as head coach, the Oceanic posted a 140-112-8-5 record in 265 regular season games. In 2008, Jodoin was an assistant coach with Canada’s national gold medal team at the 2008 World Junior Championships presented in Czech Republic.

Before joining the Oceanic, Jodoin was the head hoach of the QMJHL Lewiston Maineiacs for three seasons (2004 to 2007). The Canadian Hockey League honoured Jodoin with the Brian Kilrea Coach of the Year Award in 2007, as he led the Lewiston Maineiacs to the QMJHL President's Cup and a 2007 Memorial Cup berth. Jodoin has twice been named the QMJHL's "Coach of the Year," receiving the Ron Lapointe Trophy for the first time in 1997, while acting as head coach/general manager of the Halifax Mooseheads (1994 to 1997), and in 2007 with Lewiston. Jodoin also received the Paul Dumont Trophy in the 2005–06 as "Personality of the Year."

Clément Jodoin is back with the Canadiens organization, where he spent six seasons between 1997 and 2003 in various positions within the hockey department. He first joined the Canadiens on June 10, 1997 as an assistant coach. In 2000-01, he acted as professional scout, and then became Director of Player Development. He returned behing the bench as an assistant coach for the 2002-03 season.

A native of St-Césaire, Quebec, Jodoin began his coaching career more than 30 years ago. In 1984-85, he became the head coach of the UQTR Patriotes of the Canadian Interuniversity Athletic Union. He led his team to the Québec University Athletic Association Championship (1986), as well as the CIAU Championship (1987). Following one season as assistant coach with the NHL Pittsburgh Penguins in 1987-88, Jodoin returned behind the Patriotes bench for two seasons, winning the Ontario Universities Athletic Association Championship (1990). He then joined the Québec Nordiques organization, spending two seasons as the AHL Halifax Citadels Head Coach (1990-1992), and two seasons as an assistant with the Nordiques (1992-1994).

I figured this deserved it's own thread as well. Anyone have any insight into him?

Good hiring, but I would had prefer a younger guy.

But he's been coaching younger guys since the ladst decade now in Lewiston and Rimouski. Guys like leblanc and Avstin will greatly benefit from that.

He is good with your players, good choice. Wonder who his assistant will be?

At least it's not Pascal Vincent.

I think people are starting to realize he's LHJMQ-borderline. He's really good at self-promotion though.

I read on the jets board that Vincent is their new assistant coach.

That being said, let's keep this topic about Jodoin.

According to HockeyDB, he used to be Asst. Coach here in Montreal under Vigneault and Therrien.

(wasn't paying as much to hockey at that moment)

If Muller was the Habs' head coach, Kostitsyn and Latendresse would still be here, instead of being superstars elsewhere.

People talk about Muller like he was the second coming of Scotty Bowman. He's a likeable guy and all but waaaay over hyped as a coach. Didn't he insist on keeping Max Pac up the year he struggled rather then sending him down to the minors. Eventually max did go down and camw back much better after almost having his confidence blown because of staying up too long.

By saying he'd have made Latendresse and Kosty better is simply an idealized version of a truth you'd like to believe in but not based on any facts what so ever. Last I checked, neither one was a Super Star anywhere.

I wonder if Jodoin was the second choice after Vincent, considering that his hiring was known shortly after the Jet's announcement (Vincent to be ass. coach).

Jodoin , Gauthier and Martin go way back... to the Nordiques days I believe.

I'd be really worried about Habs management if their 1st choice was Vincent. I'd also be worried about our prospects development in the AHL.

Would've preferred Gallant, but oh well.

Hopefully he gets Fortier's swag back.

As for the hiring, good enough I guess but I still would have loved to see Muller as the Dogs coach.

Good move I believe. He's a good teacher and he's always ready for the games. I just hope he'll stay there for a few years. It's not the best thing for our young players to see a new face every year...

Rochester was also godawful in that period IIRC (in terms of talent). I think he did better in the second year, but didn't appreciate the treatment, so he left. Not sure though.
