2011 Top-20 Prospects #1

Quote:

1. If a prospect is a skater (forward, defenseman) and has played in 65 NHL games or more before the completion of the season of his 24th birthday; or, if a goaltender has played in 45 NHL games before the completion of the season of his 24th birthday, that player will be considered graduated to the NHL. Conversely, if a player completes the season of his 24th birthday without passing those milestones, then that player will no longer be considered a prospect by Hockey’s Future, regardless of the player’s status with his NHL club.

2. An NCAA player who signs his first contract at or above the age of 22 has three years to meet the above criteria (65/45), while those NCAA players that turn pro under the age of 22 will be subjected to
the criteria above.

3. European players who sign their first NHL contract at or above the age of 22 have three seasons from the time they sign that contract to meet the above criteria. Those European players below the age of 22 that have signed a NHL contract will be subjected to the criteria in section one.
Using HF's definition of prospects.

Who is the top young gun in the Predators system? Nominate an unlisted prospect, too.

So if you want Ryan Ellis to be the top prospect, and you want Craig Smith added to the next poll, you'd say "Ryan Ellis, add Craig Smith".

Blum.... Would of chose Josi but Blums already shown us hes capable of being our number 3.

CalleJAMkrok 07-28-2011 09:24 PM

chose ellis because he has been so highly touted i feel the expectations should be held higher, also (i know its not reliable at all) his numbers in O are similair to Radulovs numbers in the Q, for a defenceman. Also he has held a leadership role throughout his career and been very successful in that role

Edit: Add Patrick Cehlin

Seth Lake 07-28-2011 09:36 PM

Due to his smooth transition into the NHL last season, Jon Blum...

Add Gabriel Bourque

Paranoid Android 07-28-2011 09:51 PM

Blum, add Craig Smith

Soundgarden 07-28-2011 10:27 PM

We've already seen what Blum is capable of, he's got to be the closest to an NHL regular on the list.

Add Craig Smith.

TootooTrain 07-28-2011 11:22 PM

Top prospects should be a mix of potential and how ready they are to step into the nhl. That being said, Blum is defiantly first in my books.

barrytrotzsneck 07-29-2011 06:38 AM

Blum. Definitely add Craig Smith.

Seth Lake 07-29-2011 07:06 AM

I'd remove Linus Klasen (who's signed a multiyear deal in Sweden) and Chet Pickard and add Craig Smith and Gabriel Bourque or Patrick Cehlin for the next round.

Webersmashpuck 07-29-2011 08:37 AM

Blum, and add Smith

Joe T Choker 07-29-2011 08:59 AM

Add Smith

Blum in one of the easiest polls I've ever done on here.

Should be a fun battle royale between Josi, Ellis, and Beck for the next spot. Team Josi all the way!

Token, going with Ekholm already? I like him a lot, but above Blum, Josi and Co? I'm genuinely curious what you're basing your choice off of. No hate, just asking for some support of your opinion.

No hate taken homey...

1) I don't care what HF says, Blum is not a prospect, neither is Lindback.

2.) I don't buy all the josi boylove because I think he is made of glass. I hope he proves me wrong.

3.) you would have to know I love big ******** dmen-stevens, pronger, weber, etc.

I had a hard time between him and ellis. I like the fact he is a big body and has the potential to be a very very good all round defenseman. I have honestly only seen a little of his play, but what i have seen I like. I like that he used his body and seemed to have a bit of snarl. We talk about how Weber has that generational talent becasue of all the things that his skillset combines (physicality + being able to hammer pucks), and I see a little of that in Eckholm. Not saying he will come close to weber, but I see a little of that game in him, while I see the same things out of our other dmen. I took into account what I think the team needs a little bit too.

this scenario reminds me of a few years ago when we had, in order of permanant stay Hamhuis, Suter, Weber, Klein, Franson, Parent. Only now it is Blum in the Hamhuis role of first to graduate. The Suter (full season) and Weber (midseason callup) roles are gonna be filled by 2 of ellis, josi, and eckholm, witht he other taking the Klein (patiently waiting for his opportunity) role. The Franson/Parent roles in my story (pick any other dman we have at this point) will take 4-5 years of development.

With respect, shouldn`t we separate the defenceman from the forwards. Because right now, it`s the D-men leading the charge (31 votes to 1 vote for Beck).

You mean create another series of polls for forwards? That would lead to a very short list.

Certain organizations are deeper at certain positions. That's just the way she goes.

glenngineer 07-29-2011 01:36 PM

Blum for all the reasons above. Add Smith, Cehlin and COR.

I just meant then we are rating forwards on their merit. With 31 votes going to D-men, it kinda blurs the picture a bit (if we were going to judge the forwards on their merits compared to themselves).

Not really because after Ellis, Blum and Josi, the talent level is going to drop off on the blue line and guys like Smith, Latta, Beck and Bourque will get a lot of votes.

By the way, Add Bourque.

SilasAdams 07-29-2011 07:26 PM

someone start up # 2. Blum dominated

I Will Son 07-29-2011 07:38 PM

Josi or Ellis will get number 2

Jarnberg 07-30-2011 12:29 AM

Bourque needs to be added. He looks like an outstanding prospect who should remind people of Brad Marchand.
