Colin White eh?

Please just get White Tambo. He'd be a perfect addition

He's blind in one eye isn't he?

Bryanbryoil 08-01-2011 12:10 PM

Haven't seen White play in awhile, I used to like the toughness that he brought. However if we did claim him who do we waive on D?

Soli 08-01-2011 12:10 PM

To curb those who say wait for buyout...

I dont think we'd be an attractive option to White, so claiming him would guarantee us his service this year.

I can't see them paying White his 3M salary, which means they'd have to try and sign him after he gets bought out. And that would really surprise me too, because that basically guarantees that Petry doesn't make the team.

I think Hunter would be a pretty good pick-up. He'd add a lot to our bottom-6, could recoup value by the trade deadline.

He's going to be lucky to sign anywhere. McCabe, Hannan, Staios, Campoli to name a few are still looking for work.

Last that I saw of him on the Isles, he's not the same player anymore, he's about ready for pasture IMO.

I've heard a few Isles fans say that Hunter just isn't the player he was a few years ago and they were quite relieved to see him traded.

Not worth it. 2 years 2mil left on his deal. I'd give him one year at around 700k no more. Too injury prone to be taking a 2 year risk on.

Doubt it. He's signed for another year! Stick a fork in his career.

White is steadier than any of those defensemen in his own zone.

Maybe, but there just doesn't seem to be the market right now.

Whitney - White
Smid - Gilbert
Peckham - Barker
Sutton

No one. Petry stays in the AHL for 1 more year.

McGreat One 08-01-2011 12:21 PM

I wouldn't be totally against signing White as he could add to our defensive depth and make the Oilers tougher to play against, but adding Hunter would just be a complete waste of time. Hunter is more suitable to a top 6 role and to be honest I don't even see him being all that effective at that anymore. Adding him to the lineup would just take away ice time from one of our young guys who could use the playing time to develop into full time NHLers.

I could live with that. Chorney's career here might come to an end, but if White is anywhere near the player he was 3-4 years ago or better it'd be worthwhile to claim him. Does White play RD?

Gobo 08-01-2011 12:24 PM

White should be an Oiler. In years past, Hunter would've been a great addition. Now, he isn't the same.

Soli 08-01-2011 12:26 PM

The vocal majority of NJD fansn their board are confused why their best defenseman is being bought out.

bah...let's just go with what we have right now. we already have sort of a reclamation project on D in Cam Barker, plus we traded for D Andy Sutton. and really exactly WHERE is Trent Hunter going to play? *if* Nugent-Hopkins makes the team, then you have Smyth-Horc-Hemsky, Hall-RNH-Eberle, Magnus-Gagner-Omark, also Eager-Belanger-Jones. Brule and Hordichuk extra. there's also a chance that Alex Plante or Curtis Hamilton or another kid could make the team, so i don't see Hunter or any of the above d-men being any better than any of these guys at this point in their careers. i would pass on all of these guys.

Bryanbryoil 08-01-2011 12:28 PM

Well White is an UFA at the end of this year, I would probably roll the dice on him, he's a year or two younger than I thought he was and he'll be 34 in December. I guess it just depends on what we plan for our D, if we are looking to move a D, or get Chorney or Petry NHL minutes this year. IMO we have to start breaking in some of these rookie D before we become a good team and they cost us games in the standings when it'll actually matter.

Well then it sounds like we should claim him. I wasn't sure how much his play may have regressed having not seen him lately (or at least keying in on him lately).

likeavoss 08-01-2011 12:31 PM

WTF?

Hunter I get, but White? What? I don't see how you pass on him if you're the Oilers, but they probably will anyway.

If he is playing with Whitney does it matter?:naughty:

Not sure. Peckham could move to RD, and White could move to LD then.
