Nolan and Fedoruk. Tryout contracts!

No other details. Discuss! ;-)

Don't mind it. Very, very low risk.

They probably won't make the team, but who knows, maybe Nolan has a Selanne or Recchi in him.

gsharpe 08-04-2011 01:23 PM

I would like a

Winchester - Lapierre - Nolan

4th line.

Probably won't happen though.

Crows* 08-04-2011 01:24 PM

I could definately see Nolan making the team, especially with the injuries. Really like this. FedOruk is a long shot but no risk.

petrishriekandgo 08-04-2011 01:27 PM

Hodgson better bring it man....

Proto 08-04-2011 01:45 PM

Literally a zero risk move. I wanted the Canucks to sign Owen Nolan last summer. I hope he has something left, because he's a good character guy that will want to win a cup very badly. He could potentially by a huge 3rd/4th line tweener for the team.

Of course, I wanted AV to try Schaefer with the Sedins last year while Burrows was out, so I might be a bit biased towards past performances ;)

Uhmkay 08-04-2011 01:48 PM

Owen Nolan could still be useful on the 3rd/4th line. He is 2 years removed from a 16 goal campaign on a bad Wild team. Scored 25 goals 3 years ago in 59 games. Not sure if he's got the wheels to keep up with a rather speedy Canucks roster however so I think he'd be stuck on 4th line duty.

If he could score 10 goals on the 4th line, I'd be happy.

xtr3m 08-04-2011 01:51 PM

Could be our own Recchi.

Canucker 08-04-2011 01:51 PM

Fedoruk is a waste of space, he's impossible to use. At least with Winchester he can play. Nolan is a good pickup for a tryout, looking forward to seeing if he has anything left to offer on the ice.

Decent moves, hopefully we don't end up just getting a guy in shape for another team. Camp will be interesting.

At the risk of having tomatoes thrown at me... The Sedins aren't the speediest Canucks and Nolan is a go to the net kind of guy.

Just sayin'...

mrmyheadhurts 08-04-2011 01:57 PM

I don't get it, is this confirmed or just speculation?

Many, many years ago I thought Nolan would have been an ideal winger for them. Now....not so much.

I am really hoping this offseason that MG can add a winger who can move up to play with the twins, when needed, that has decent skill and is MEAN.

If I have to watch the Sedins get face washed, slashed, punched and disrespected for another playoff run, I'm gonna.................... well I don't know what I'd do, probably just watch and ***** on message boards.

Owen Nolan on the 3rd or 4th line would be kinda awesome, for his tenacity and goal scoring ability, a solid depth move, a guy we needed on the 4th line last playoffs.

Fedo should make training camp more interesting than the usual at least, don't know much about him.

All you need to know about Todd Fedoruk:

I thought Fedoruk retried

Hammer79 08-04-2011 02:33 PM

....

mrmyheadhurts 08-04-2011 02:46 PM

Fedoruk has no chance but Nolan will be an intriguing story for training camp if nothing else.

yeah, looks like he didn't play a game last year and was on 6 teams in the 3 years before that(!!), but he's only 32 and doesn't take crap and all that...

and i was thinking the sedin thing too. if nolan still has hands (but only 9 goals in swiss league last year...), he could possibly (is there something stronger than italics?) bump burrows to the second line??

From a players standpoint, Gillis has always been good to his pto's. He offers them to other GM's when he doesn't think they would be a fit here. Dave Scatchard comes to mind. Also, Morrison's try-out led to him grabbing a spot with the Flames.

These low risk high reward reclamation projects seem to be part of Gillis' moneypuck strategy.

Keep telling yourself that "moneypuck" means anything. It's garbage, doesn't even work in baseball, nevermind hockey. The driving force (Billy Beane)'s teams haven't even sniffed the playoffs in 5 years.

lol me too

Velociraptor 08-04-2011 02:58 PM

I like the moves, I know Nolan is in the twilight of his career, but he is a very low-risk move who could make a bottom-6 impact. Fedoruk is tough, but I'd rather Winchester.

Reverend Mayhem 08-04-2011 03:00 PM

Like the Nolan PTO, but didn't Fedoruk have his face broken in a fight twice? Not great for an enforcer.
