Hockey muscles
What muscles are key to improving in hockey, and what is the best workout at the gym to improve these muscles?

We've had a lot of discussion recently and I'd recommend digging through some of the posts the last few days about workouts.

Check out Tony Twist's Complete Conditioning for Ice Hockey if you're serious about it.

Otherwise, it's mostly legs, core, back, and shoulders. Emphasis on strength, explosiveness, and stability. Squats, deadlifts, cleans, presses for weights. Plyometrics and sprinting for explosiveness and fitness. Core and balance exercises. Etc.

Glutes for sure. That is the main thing I worked on last off season and my game improved hugely. Felt more explosive, stronger on my skates, and was winning more battles.

Core (including back), butt and upper legs are your major muscle groups. Shoulders and triceps are the most important in the upper body but they don't do near as much work as the lower body.

Jarick's got a pretty good summary of the exercises.
