That's more Francisco than Mayberry. At least give him more spot starts against lefties. The kid just keeps coming up with big hits. Maybe it's best to not overexpose him, but he's earned more playing time. Plus I think that will help prevent Raul from going into one his prolonged slumps as well. Sounds good in theory. :)

Fun fact of the day: Since Chase Utley returned to the lineup on May 23, the Phillies have scored 4.77 runs per game. That would put them in a virtual dead heat for best offense in the NL.

DeadPhish5858 08-05-2011 12:59 PM

Good work on the title change.

:thumbu: An even "more funner" fact, since Hunter's addition they're at 5.5. (granted it was the Pirates and Rockies, but still)

Don't discount what they did against the Pirates too much. We've seen as a whole, they've been much better this year than in years past. Now that Meals fiasco took some wind out of their sails and they're skidding now, but they might just stay relevant in the NL Central 'til the end. They face the Padres at home so that might be just what they need to turn it around.

As for what they did against the Rocks in Coors... well yeah.

utley has 34 runs scored and 33 rbi in 60 games. 34+33-8(# of HR so you don't count the same runs and rbis)=59. By those numbers he has in some way accounted for about a run per game on average. Obviously the people filling in at second for chase helped offensively as well but thats pretty good. there were other factors involved other than just chase coming back but you can see why they are better offensively with him in the lineup. just out of curiosity what did they average before may 23rd?

3.83.

Other factors were Ibanez having one of the worst Aprils of any player in the majors, Ruiz missing some time early on, Ben Francisco being the starting right fielder, and Victorino really picking up his game since June.

Oh yea, was just reminded of the return of the Utley/Sanchez feud. Could be some extra fireworks tonight.

I saw a preview for a Brad Pitt movie about the first GM to put together a team using Sabremetrics (I forget his name). Looked boring.

Moneyball. It was a good book and really interesting but how the hell can they make that into a movie?

I hope they don't release it on the same night they release Robert Redford's epic bio based on Sherwin Williams and how he developed the art of paint drying. :sarcasm:
