Johnny Oduya to NYI
 

Hi all, Jets fan here. I see the NYI wanting a top 4 d-man with NHL experience. Would Johnny Oduya be of any interest? Winnipeg's strong point is their defensive depth and they have a couple AHL players ready to make the jump to the NHL, but they don't have the roster space. I know the NYI have an abundance of top 6/9 forwards and could use some experience on their blue line, so I though a deal between the 2 teams could make sense. I'd appreciate some feedback from Islander fans about this idea. Thanks all:)

at what point in his career was Johnny Oduya ever confused for being a Top 4 D-man??? :confused:

His Cap hit is 3.5mil for this year, then he's a UFA. That Cap hit isn't an issue for Winnipeg, they're barely above the floor.

Oduya would be lucky to be a 3rd pairing D-man on the Islanders. He is not better than Streit, Hamonic, MacDonald, or Jurcina. Not to mention we've got Calvin de Haan coming right behind them.

No offense to you, but I choose not to answer your condescending remarks. I only asked if he had value to the NYI and what that value might be. If you don't consider him a top 4 d-man, then that's fine. All I'm looking for is comments that pertain to my initial question. Your opinion didn't answer anything for me:shakehead

I don't think he's top 4. But I've always liked him, and he has such a cool sounding name.

No way is oduya top 4 material. He is a decent 3rd pairing guy but we don't need one of those especially at his cap hit (don't think he is better than juice but he is better than mottau and maybe eaton who is a huge question mark imo)

What players do the Jets have that are ready to step into a top 4 role?

I thought I came across as civil. I'm just trying to gauge if he had value to the NYI and I guess I got my answer. Arguing semantics wasn't the point of this thread. Thanks for comments:)

I gave my opinion in a very humane way, while some others did not, don't let this thread represent us.

hey man yeah i see what your saying honestly see where your coming from... Nothing against oduya but not what the isles are looking for how about we swap struggling guys Bailey and Bogo....

I don't think Winnipeg really wants to trade Bogo before seeing how he does in our city first. He's already found a condo here and his agent is currently working on a deal with TNSE. I think both prospects were rushed into the NHL and it has somewhat stunted their growth, but both are only 21. There's still room for both to grow into what the were projected to be.

It's always hard to judge the tone of ones text. Having said that, Oduya wouldn't be a good fit and the Jets would need to take back some salary to stay over the cap floor. The Isles don't have anything to give up either.

IMO Oduya does not offer more than say Eaton. If the Islanders are going to make a move they need to make if for someone who is a little more worth while.

No harm no foul in checkin in on value. However, Johnny could be be had for picks IMO. However, at which point the Islanders would be better seeing what Wishart can bring to the table.

At what cost. He is decent still. However I would consider him a number 5 guy. I am not sure how he would fit here

That is a two edge sword. He still has the mystique of a top end pick, but that dwindles over time. Of course, they don't want to be this year's Florida-Grabner mistake either. Bogosian has a better chance of being a greater impact player than Bailey does from what I have seen. Size and snarl never hurts either. We would have to give you more than Bailey to make that happen, if it did happen.

On JD he's more vet depth. We've got quantity, what we need now is a higher end quality player. I think most here understand the club needs to trade, really, for a #2 defenseman. I don't think Oduya is that.

enstrom, byfuglien, and hainsey are already there, and if bogosian plays like he's shown he can for a consistent period of time so is he. oduya was easily their worst d-man last year, and now they signed jones and postma has a year's more experience.

i have no idea why anyone would want oduya though. he used to be a solid 2nd pairing guy but he just completely fell apart last season. i think winnipeg will just have a very expensive press box buffet sampler this year.

Oh, I completely agree.

I know he had a down year, nobody's disputing that. I also think he can improve from last season. He's a smooth skater and can still provide 20+ min a night. IMO Winnipeg is likely to let him eat up Cap space, hoping he improves, and then trade him at the deadline. I just though he could be useful to the Islanders:dunno:
