HFStars 2011-2012 Y! Fantasy League Thread

I figured it was about time I made this thread... gauge interest again this year.

My suggestion for this year... weekly roster move limit (maybe like 4) rather than only 20 moves, and possibly even smaller rosters.

piqued 08-16-2011 01:40 PM

I'm in for sure.

I agree that the move limit should be weekly rather than total. It was kind of fun to do 20 in a way because each move mattered so much but I wouldn't want to play that way again. 4 a week seems like a little much though. That would work out to over 80 in a season. 3 a week would give you a little more than 60 possible moves which I think is a better compromise.

Roster sizes should probably depend on how many teams there are going to be once we get a better idea.

Also, we need to hear from Lobo. I appreciate what he's done for this league, but I don't really want to have an inactive commissioner again. Not saying it should be me, but it ought to be someone who's not going to draft and forget. Or autodraft and forget. ;)

And one more thing: I want to have the draft as close as possible to the start of the season. I'm getting tired of losing my top picks to preseason injuries.

Unfortunately this year I won't be traveling for months on end.

Fortunately, I am in.

MetalGodAOD* 08-16-2011 02:45 PM

I'm in again. Agreed with weekly roster moves. 2-3 is fine.

Nemeth 08-16-2011 04:33 PM

Anyone mind explaining this? As you already know I'm new here ;)

Ampersand 08-16-2011 05:22 PM

Count me in

We have a private Yahoo fantasy head-to-head league that's been going for what, 3, 4 years? It's free, anyone on the board can play. It's had as many as 20 teams and as few as 10. chrissmith always wins.

Captain Awesome 08-16-2011 05:54 PM

Despite not even living in the same country as the NHL.

Modo 08-16-2011 06:01 PM

I'm in for sure.

Brand New Stars 08-16-2011 06:12 PM

I'm in

MB94 08-16-2011 06:51 PM

Count me in too, it will be my first time.

DMaz16 08-16-2011 06:54 PM

If you still have room I am definitely game

TrueGrit 08-16-2011 08:59 PM

Pending draft date/time, I'm game.

ReverendAlBundy 08-16-2011 09:04 PM

I would also like to participate

Frozen Failure 08-16-2011 09:18 PM

I would just like to also say, that if you don't actually keep tabs on your team during the season, I will have to freeze you below the ice at a random Dr. Pepper Stars Center.

hairylikebear 08-16-2011 09:22 PM

I'm in. Last time using 2 of my top 3 picks on Kovalchuk and Zajac completely demolished my enthusiasm once it because apparent how useless they were going to be fantasy-wise.

Hopefully that doesn't happen again!

Fly Like a C5 08-16-2011 10:33 PM

I'm in if there is space.

RTstars11 08-16-2011 10:36 PM

I'm in as well. Won both of my leagues last year, so looking forward to more competition!

DaStars99 08-16-2011 10:51 PM

I'm down as always

A couple of suggestions of things we could do differently:

- Reduce the trade veto time from 2 days to 1. No one ever vetoes a trade anyway. As it is now trades take the better part of a week to complete and process. That's too long.

- Reseed after playoff rounds. Set brackets don't make any sense. The regular season is pointless enough without the higher seeds not really being rewarded fully.

- Get rid of the divisions. I don't see any purpose that they serve?

- The more I think about it, 2 moves per week seems better than 3 even. I was looking at how many moves people made back when there was no limit and the max anyone made (not named me) was 46.

- Last year it was set to not allow draft picks to be traded. Anyone have any experience with the opposite? Could be fun. I can see some strategy going on there. I mean, 1st overall this year is sort of up in the air. Ovechkin had a down year, Crosby's heath is in question, Stamkos tailed off down the stretch last season...

Brand New Stars 08-16-2011 11:09 PM

Draft pick trades sound interesting. Do any fantasy leagues allow that?

Alistar 08-16-2011 11:26 PM

I'll play this time around.

I'll try not to quit out of frustration after I end up in last place in January.

Ditto

I'm in if there's room but I suggest using ESPN over Yahoo. ESPN gives way more in the way of options and is a much cleaner league to use and look at I think personally.

Keeper leagues do for sure. I've been in one for going on 10 years now.

Never heard of it in a one-year league, but seems somewhat feasible. I'd imagine the action would be limited towards the top of the draft (e.g. 1st+2nd for a higher 1st). Late picks tend to be swapped out for guys left in free agency soon after drafts anyway, so deals down there would seem unlikely.

Oh, and I'd like consideration to join this league.
