Rangers Sign F Andre Deveaux

AGrossRecord Andrew Gross
Will not interrupt vacation (Riverwalk San Antonio right now) to report Rangers sign AHL F Andre Deveaux, 27. Oops, just did.

NYDNRangers Jesse Spector
#NYR sign 27-year-old forward Andre Deveaux, who played with Chicago of the AHL last season.

BBKers 08-16-2011 03:17 PM

Looks like we found our goon for Hartford to protect the kids.
In the case that McNaught is not gonna get a chance

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andre_Deveaux

Looks like he can play a bit of hockey as well

159 points in 417 games in the "A".
1.214 Penalty minutes...:help:

RangerBoy 08-16-2011 03:19 PM

Spc #50

chip chipperson* 08-16-2011 03:21 PM

we want the cup

Orr Nightmare 08-16-2011 03:21 PM

guy is a punching bag....but i guess he serves a purpose.

NYR Viper 08-16-2011 03:23 PM

Good. I'm glad they have a heavyweight now. With the way the organization wants to play they need to have these types of players around so the younger players can play a hard-nosed brand of hockey.

nyr2k2 08-16-2011 03:34 PM

Size and (some) fighting ability for Hartford. Good move.

Mint Berry Crunch 08-16-2011 03:36 PM

Looks like we're reconstructing the 2008-09 Leafs. :sarcasm:

Newbury, Johnny Malkin, and now Deveaux. We also had Antropov for a little bit.

vipernsx 08-16-2011 04:32 PM

Don't understand why this is a Rangers contract rather than a whale contract.

BrooklynRangersFan 08-16-2011 04:37 PM

So, given that we're now at 50 SPCs and we have until next June to sign Fasth and Lindberg...

...do we have a potential problem on our hands?

Avery, Feds, Christensen, Eminger, and Biron will be coming off the books as UFAs and Wolski, MZA, & MDZ will be RFAs. I don't see much of a problem.

There's a ton of Whale players that'll be coming off the books as well.

Vitto79 08-16-2011 04:44 PM

meh had a cup of tea with the Leafs, AHL punch

Machinehead 08-16-2011 04:49 PM

Damn now why couldn't they just send me down there I'm bigger than him :sarcasm:

C'mon Slats I need a job!!

:jk: Should serve as a nice bodyguard for our kids. Maybe we'll even let him come up for a game against the Flyers :naughty:

When do they come off the books? When does our window to sign those players expire? Aren't we cutting that reeeeeeeeeal close?

Me too... No, I didn't sign with Rangers. I am also on Riverwalk in San Antonio. It is hot like hell.

Any prospects signed to an ELC after a certain date start to count against the contract limit in the following season. So we won't have a problem.

White Plains Batman 08-16-2011 05:11 PM

Anything from January on doesn't count until next season.

Believe me, they're not gonna lose the rights to Fasth and Lindberg because of Deveau and Thorensun for example.

McIlrath, Miller and Thomas won't count against the 50 limit once they are sent back to juniors.

has got to be a AHL contract.

RangerBoy 08-16-2011 06:42 PM

The CBA allows teams to sign prospects between March 1-June 1 with the contract beginning the following season.

Quote:

(d) No Club or Player may enter into an SPC that does not cover at least the
then-current League Year. The foregoing does not apply to an SPC entered into pursuant
to Section 50.5(f) above, or to Unsigned Draft Choices or Draft Related Unrestricted Free
Agents, who shall be permitted to sign an SPC during the period from March 1 through
June 1 immediately preceding the League Year in which such SPC is to take effect.

50.5(f) deals with contract extensions.

Maybe that was the difference between him signing here or elsewhere? It's also not completely outside the realm of possibility that the Rangers could dress him at some point this year, for instance if Rupp was injured and we were playing on Long Island.

Not a big deal either way. The 50 SPC limit is one of those things that people fret over that never ends up being an issue.
