Plane Carrying KHL Team Lokomotiv Crashes; 43 Confirmed Dead

36 reported dead on a plane crash carrying the KHL team Lokomotiv.

Roster includes former NHL players Demitra, Rachunek, Salei and Skrastins. Devils prospect Alexander Vasyunov is also on the Lokomotiv roster.

Still no word on how many players or coaches were on the charter at the time of the crash.

One reported survivor is apparently a member of the planes crew.

I was reading in the thread on the main board that one player, Alexander Galimov, survived the crash. I don't know what condition he is in though. What a horrible year for professional hockey :(

@dchesnokov: Lokomotiv official tells Sovetsky Sport "everyone from the main roster was on the plane + 4 players from the youth team."

Lokomotiv official said the entire team was on the plane because they were traveling for the 1st game of the season, a celebration.

Former Ranger and Devil Karel Rachunek was on board.

17futurecap 09-07-2011 09:00 AM

This is just awful, no words to describe it. Sons, fathers, and husbands are gone to soon, RIP.

SupersonicMonkey* 09-07-2011 09:02 AM

Prayers for the families and friends.

This is heart wrenching.

Shootmaster_44 09-07-2011 09:03 AM

Former Ranger prospect Jan Marek was also supposedly on board. I forget how he ended up with my Kings, but he was dealt a few years ago at the deadline.

It has been one awful off-season for the hockey world.

The Avery trade.

:( Why.

pwoz 09-07-2011 09:05 AM

I've always feared something like this would happen.. considering how many pro sports teams there are around the world and all the constant flights.

DrSutton* 09-07-2011 09:06 AM

Gabs and Artem are probably beside themselves right now....

Rest in peace to all and prayers to their families
