Lokomotiv Plane Crash - Former Hawks Alexander Karpovtsev and Igor Korolev killed.
Pavol Demitra was on the plane. Salei was also thought to be on it as well, but looks like he was not.... This is some frightening stuff. My skin hasn't crawled like it did when I read this article in quite some time.

Went to go edit the title, but can't. If a mod wants to edit it in the fact that they are a KHL team, feel free to do so however you feel fit.

Just godawful news. RIP to the deceased and thoughts and prayers to the survivors, families, friends, and fans.

They had two former Hawks listed on their coaching staff - Alexander Karpovtsev and Igor Korolev.

RIP to all those who perished. My thoughts are with them and their loved ones.

It's just terrible news.

R.I.P. to the dead. I pray that Galimov pulls through.

Sadly, sounds like he didn't. Based on varying reports, he either passed away in surgery or his injuries/burns are so severe that the doctors think he won't survive even if everything goes right.

Yikes this is awful.

HockeySensible 09-07-2011 10:40 AM

Who could have thought something like this would actually happen? An entire team, a group of men, alot of whom are in the primes of their lives, just completely wiped out. Tragic news.

MTP 09-07-2011 10:42 AM

This offseason just keeps getting worse and worse. This is truly awful.

salty justice 09-07-2011 10:47 AM

officially the most ****ed up offseason of all time. god rest their souls. my heart goes out to their familes.

Sarava 09-07-2011 10:50 AM

Longtime NHLer Brad McCrimmon was their coach and is among the dead. This is just shocking.

crimsonking 09-07-2011 11:09 AM

What a horrific summer this has been. Rest in peace, you will be missed.

Sarava 09-07-2011 11:26 AM

I saw a translated list of names and Maxim A. Shuvalov was one. Thought that was our guy for a minute, but the Hawks draft pick is named Maxim Shalunov and he played for a different KHL team last year.

Blue Liner 09-07-2011 11:34 AM

This has to be one of the worst off-seasons a sport has ever had. Just tragic.

brtriad 09-07-2011 11:46 AM

Really, really twisted offseason. It's the rapture. RIP.

RayP 09-07-2011 12:00 PM

The Chicago Blackhawks have released the following statement in regards to the plane crash in Russia involving members of Lokomotiv of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).

“We stand together with the entire KHL, NHL and hockey world in mourning today’s tragic news concerning the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl hockey team. The tragedy affects the Chicago Blackhawks family directly as we mourn the losses of Alexander Karpovtsev and Igor Korolev, two players who spent time with our organization and that our fans know well. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl organization.”
Met Korolev as kid and he did seem geniunely nice to me

For Karpovtsev ,, Well the past is the past and prayers go out to his family

Truly sad

What can you say? It's a damn shame this accident happened and I can only hope it has a lasting effect on Russian aviation. It's needed an overhaul for a long time. We'll never forget the players, especially the ones that played in front of us in the NHL for so many years.

Cullksinikers 09-07-2011 03:57 PM

I know most of us, and certainly Pat Foley, didn't like Karpotsev, but you have to feel for his, Korolev, and the whole team and staff's families.

BBSeabs27 09-07-2011 04:05 PM

This has been a bad summer for hockey. RIP to all who died.

CPHawksFan 09-07-2011 04:41 PM

OMG, drop the puck already before anything else happens...

RIP all those who passed away and prayers to their families.
