6.7 Earthquake off Vancouver Island

http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquak...pt11252000.php

6.7 on the Richter Scale. Quite deep though, 25.9km. Depths may chance as event is reviewed. Where are you located? Did you feel it?

I am in Victoria and I was biking along the road, I felt my bike tip to one side slightly but I automatically corrected it without even thinking about it.

Comox region reported moderate shaking. I am wondering how Tofino is doing...

xtr3m 09-09-2011 03:10 PM

Felt it in Burnaby.

JBIZ14 09-09-2011 03:11 PM

Good to hear...let off that pressure slowly fault line.

Thricecube 09-09-2011 03:12 PM

Felt it in Courtenay. I thought at first that someone crashed into my work's building lol

I'm in Courtenay too. Didn't feel a thing and I'm pissed about it.

Free Kassian 09-09-2011 03:13 PM

Felt it in my office in New Westminster. Monitor started shaking.

Karl Hungus 09-09-2011 03:13 PM

Felt it at Cambie and Broadway. I live in a pretty solid building and it was wobbling in a boozy manner. I could see my blinds swaying.

canucksfan 09-09-2011 03:16 PM

I was just in Tofino too

Durock 09-09-2011 03:17 PM

I felt it as I was laying on my couch in coquitlam, but thought I was crazy since I didn't see or hear anything trembling a little.

Chairman Maouth 09-09-2011 03:18 PM

A strong earthquake has occurred, but a tsunami IS NOT expected along the California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, or Alaska coast. NO tsunami warning, watch or advisory is in effect for these areas.

Based on the earthquake magnitude, location and historic tsunami records, a damaging tsunami IS NOT expected along the California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, and Alaska coasts. Some of these areas may experience non-damaging sea level changes. At coastal locations which have experienced strong ground shaking, local tsunamis are possible due to underwater landslides.

At 12:42 PM Pacific Daylight Time on September 9, an earthquake with preliminary magnitude 6.7 occurred 50 miles/80 Km south of Port Alice, British Columbia . (Refer to the United States Geological Survey for official earthquake parameters.)

Pacific coastal regions outside California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, and Alaska should refer to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center messages for information on the event.

This will be the only statement issued for this event by the West Coast/Alaska Tsunami Warning Center unless conditions warrant. See the WCATWC web site for basic tsunami information, safety rules, and a tsunami travel time map and table. (NOTE: Travel time maps and tables indicate forecasted times only, not that a wave was generated.)

Live in Chilliwack, felt nothing

Crows* 09-09-2011 03:18 PM

Marine and 57th. Didn't feel anything. Damnit, I wanted to feel it!

foppagirl21 09-09-2011 03:19 PM

I am in Kits right now and did not feel a thing at all (well, nothing I am aware of). Crazy!

You are crazy; it's a beautiful day, get off the couch and go outside.

petrishriekandgo 09-09-2011 03:20 PM

I'm up in Comox by the airport... felt about 10 seconds of swaying (thought I needed to eat lunch and was getting light-headed) and then a major jolt. Ran upstairs to see things had fallen off the wall... grabbed the family and went outside to see the fish pond swaying back and forth.

Crazy... biggest one I've felt in years.

Yeah same effect in my downtown apartment, a boozy manner of wobbling for about 10 seconds. I was standing at the time rather than sitting so could feel the full effect, and saw the blinds shaking. Pretty cool as that's the first time I've ever felt one, usually I miss these things.

jd22 09-09-2011 03:26 PM

Weird how it went for awhile in Vancouver - I had about a seconds worth of wobbling while I was on my bike in Vic.

CurtisLoew 09-09-2011 03:40 PM

I was freshly baked and playing Fifa, felt the earthquake but figured I was just imagining the shake and kept playing.

Coquitlam

Shake wouldn't get you freshly baked. :sarcasm:

Wetcoaster 09-09-2011 03:48 PM

From the OT thread...

I am in South Burnaby and the condo was swaying for a few seconds. Thought I was dizzy at first or too much single malt Scotch.

First report:
An earthquake has stuck around Vancouver and the Vancouver Island, according to reports.

The U.S. Geological Service is reporting the earthquake was magnitude 6.8. and centered around the north end of Vancouver Island.

People are reporting buildings swaying for extended periods from the Fraser Valley to Campbell River at around 12:21 PT p.m., but there are no reports of damage.

Yeah me too. Not a thing. My downstairs cave troll said the house was shaking but then again I wasn't at home.

Yeah definitely a weird quake. My mom lives in nanaimo so I gave her a call. She was shocked that there was even an earthquake, even moreso when I told her it was 6.7.

I don't understand how it was felt all the way down in Bellevue if it isn't felt in Courtenay or nanaimo.
