HF Sharks Top Prospect Polls: 2011 edition - #4

sorry for the delay. been busy. Let's get going again though.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s3-Stalock.gif

Click each prospect's rank card to be taken to the poll thread for the spot they earned.

Alex Stalock slots in 3rd after earning 36% of the vote last round. Most likely on the back of his injury and likely having his season wiped out, Stalock is the first prospect on the rankings to drop from their '10 position. Last year Stalock was the #1 prospect according to this board.

Wrenn and Sgarbossa continue to be shut out in the voting process. They're the only prospects to this point who have not received at least one vote, and that includes the ones who have been added since the polls started.

In a bittersweet/twist the knife sort of development, the prospect who would've been added to this poll was Sobchenko. In memorial for him, I will leave one slot on the polls blank this round. Please do not vote for it. In that place for the #5 poll I will slot in Cam MacIntyre. But since there will still be another slot opened by whoever wins this poll, please continue to vote for who you want added to the next poll, assuming MacIntyre is already in.

Eligible for addition to future polls and/or the "other" vote option (regardless of how you vote in the poll, pick one to add to the next poll)
Sena Acolatse
Colin Blackwell
Mike Connolly
Chris Crane
Drew Daniels
Justin Daniels
Dylan DeMelo
Cody Ferriero
Max Gaede
Curt Gogol
Thomas Heemskerk
Matt Irwin
Sean Kuraly
James Livingston
Tony Lucia
Isaac MacLeod
James Marcou
Lee Moffie
Matt Pelech
Brodie Reid
Justin Sefton
Tyson Sexsmith

Poll rules:
Eligibility: Prospects are eligible for the polls if they are 25 years of age or younger, have played less than 30 NHL games in their careers to this point, and are not expected to be regular parts of the NHL roster this year. Yes, this means that Thomas Greiss is back on the list after being off last year when he was projected as the backup goaltender prior to the Niemi signing.

1) each poll will have 14 player options, plus an "other" vote. If you vote for "other" you must indicate in a post who you are intending to put forth as your selection for it (and it must be a player found on the future poll eligibility list below). Any "other" votes that are not accompanied by a post indicating who you are voting for will be voided.

2) When you vote, you must also post and indicate who you wish to have added to the next poll. The player with the most nominations will be added to the next ranking spot's poll options.

3) Polls will be open for 48 hours. (I've found that during the summer, voting tends to peter out after a couple days, and 90% of the time the voters who miss out in two-day windows aren't usually enough to impact the result)

4) If after 30 votes have been cast, any prospect holds a 15 vote or greater lead on the next closest competitor, the poll will be closed early and the current front-runner will be declared the winner.

5) In the event a poll closes with a tie, a 24 hour tiebreak poll will be opened with only the tied players available as an option.

I went with Nieto. He's got some pretty nice numbers so far in his short career. It's close between him and Petrecki for me.

You will all note that the "Sobchenko spot", which has been left blank, has a vote. Nem has asked for us not to vote for it, but I did run it by him before I voted for it.

I voted for it on behalf of all of us, so that while we look forward at San Jose's future prospects there is still thoughts of looking back at a young man and his teammates taken from us at a far too young age.

Sateri, I think he is a tremendous goalie. Very good in Finland, and looked solid behind an awful Woostah team. He needs some more time, but I think he is every bit as likely as Stalock to be our goalie of the future. I hope we aren't too overloaded in the AHL, because I think Sateri needs time.

Vaasa 09-10-2011 01:49 PM

Sateri - Add Irwin.

They should be fine for at least this year. With Stalock out for the year, Greiss and Sateri will probably split the Worcester duties while Sexsmith and Heemskerk will play for Stockton. By 12-13 Niittymaki will be UFA, and Sexsmith and Stalock will be RFA, so they can do a bit of juggling and be able to wedge Anderson into the pro ranks too.

I would further like to add that there is no doubt in my mind that Sobchenko was one of our top 20 prospects, and IMO, deserves to be remembered on the list. He would have been a great Shark.

To some degree, I think they will be fine this year, however, I want Sateri playing a lot of games. Stalock being hurt helps that, but Greiss and Sateri both have good claims to the starting position and needs for lots of games. If Niitty is truly hurt (may be little more than a strain), that would certainly help alleviate some of the problem. Next year Greiss will take the NHL back-up, but that still leaves two of our top prospects fighting for one spot-hardy ideal. I am also high on Anderson and to a lesser degree Hemmskerk (I think Stockton is fine for this year and possibly next), and expect to see Sexsmith be trade bait (think future considerations, or toss in) or to be released. However, that still leaves things awfully crowded, as I think we all want Sateri, Stalock, and Anderson playing lots of games, and want continued development for Hemmskerk as well.

NHL
Niemi
Greiss

AHL
Stalock
Sateri

ECHL
Anderson
Hemmskerk

Sure it fits, but we need more playing time for some of these guys.

Every time I say Harri Sateri in my mind, it always comes out like Will Ferrell's impression from SNL..."Hey everybody Harri Sateri here."
