How to change shooting habbits?

My son can't seem to grasp the concept of a wrist shot. He is a right handed shooter and when we are shooting pucks in the garage he does fine, but when he is out on the ice he can't get it down. What he does on the ice is try to shoot it off his right leg, weak side. He can't get any power behind it and I tell him to shoot off his left leg (strong side). Is there any way to teach him and get him use to shooting off his left leg? Or will he just figure it out one day?

Try watching some of the howtohockey Youtube videos.

Make sure your son puts his weight on his right leg initially, and shift it over to his left on the shot. Might help if you just get him to stand on the ice and shift his body weight before integrating it with the shot. Then work on getting the full finish after he gets that. Should improve his power by a lot.

How old is he?

When stationary, it's easy to get into correct position and transfer the weight and shoot. When in motion, you need to practice shooting off both legs for quick release. You won't always be able to stop, turn sideways, and then shoot.

Emulate this shooting style for quickest release and best scoring chances. Notice how he shoots off both feet, but really incorporates kicking off the back leg (and that could be either leg depending on his position and where he gets the puck):

Shooting off the wrong foot is good for shooting while in stride. For his strong foot does he have trouble balancing while transfering his weight from the back to the front foot? If so try practicing in your garage in inline skates. If no balance issues just have him put all his weight on the back leg and then as he sweeps the puck drive off that back foot and land of the front foot. Do it slow initially to get it down. May help to over emphasize by lifting the front foot slightly in the start position, kind of like how a batter lifts that foot and then steps into it. Here's a good clip of an 8 yr old doing one, may relate better to it if he is similar age.
