Ryan Martindale Update?

I heard that Martindale left the game the other night with a hip flexor injury. I haven't seen any updates though; has anyone heard anything? How long is he going to be out for? I assume he's been invited to the main camp as well? thx.

dubs 09-16-2011 04:08 PM

The media seems to not like him much, probably the reason why there is no info.

NAF 09-16-2011 04:11 PM

Nobody seems to like him much, especially within the organization, except for maybe Stu. I kinda don't understand it. Kid's a good prospect.

joestevens29 09-16-2011 04:14 PM

Gregor has him on his list of people at camp, so I'd assume he is there. Others that are injured aren't on the list.

McDNicks17 09-16-2011 04:16 PM

The organization doesn't seem to know he exists, so maybe the media doesn't either.

dubs 09-16-2011 04:35 PM

I don't get all the love for Curtis Hamilton. Martindale should be getting just as much attention from the team and the media.

ChokeOnOil 09-16-2011 04:56 PM

Where are you guys getting this "team doesn't like him much" stuff?

With the comments in this thread you'd think you were all insiders.

Of course I'm no MD here but just wondering how much an increase in weight of a player may result in subsequent risk of injuries like a hip flexor.

Not saying it is involved but Martindale who is playing pretty big has gained 15-20lbs over the last year and depending on which report he gained that much in the offseason.

Just a laymans view here but I realize how much just 10lbs increase in weight impacts everything out on the ice from skating, acceleration, stability, etc. With every movement feeling different. You may not notice an increase in weight normally put throw on some skates and try to fly around and you notice it immediately.

I think hockey/skating more than anything is impacted by increases in weight. Not sure its best course of action to increase weight quickly in hockey. This strains adaptation and the ability of muscle groups to respond to the weight I would think.

Yeah where is this coming from?

Arpeggio 09-16-2011 05:00 PM

^^Probably because the team hasn't signed him yet, I guess.

Usual_Suspect 09-16-2011 05:00 PM

I have no idea what you guys are talking about the media not liking Martindale. Stauffer has been pumping his tires every chance he gets over the last few weeks.

He put him as the #2 prospect on his list to watch:

He's mentioned him during interviews with Tambellini, MacGregor, and every other member of the Oilers staff that's been on Oilers Now since it launched.

Sometimes this board complains to complain.

Funny, I would imagine Martindales agent might think the same thing.

The link is actually the top 5 players Stauffer says to keep an eye on. Not top 5 prospects. He's got Tyler Schmidt as #5 and he's just a camp invite.

Sorry I misspoke. Anyways my point was that it's pretty clear that Stauffer likes him. Listen to any of those interviews...

It's funny that we hear about him as a "Player to Watch", yet we didn't hear anything about him all season when he was consistently the best player on arguably the CHL's best line.

From what I heard, Toffoli was the one driving the bus on that line.

Ragss 09-16-2011 06:29 PM

I've always heard mediocre things about him, but he was really impressive at the rookie tourny. His style of puck handling reminds me of Penner.

So why have they not signed him yet? So strange--he is a solid prospect. How much time do they have to sign him before he goes back in the draft?

I think we're at 49 contracts, so he might be a victim to the numbers game. I think he has until next summer though doesn't he?

Pretty much sums up this situation:

Pffft. Spoken like a true outsider.

Makes sense. Probably will ink him next year once UFAs get off the books and certain prospects outlive their welcome (I suspect Brule, Chorney, Plante, O'Marra, Vande Velde, Kytnar might not be with the organization for much longer.
