Rangers and Isles expressing interest in Mara

I just read that. If they plan on actually playing Eminger then it may make sense.

DonCherrysSuit 09-20-2011 09:48 AM

Mara's got more heart and character than anyone else in the league. Of course, I'd rather the Rangers pick up a more offensive vet Dman, but I'd be happy to see Mara come back.

92hatchattack 09-20-2011 09:51 AM

Can we just sign Mara's beard?

Melrose_Jr. 09-20-2011 09:57 AM

I'm going to say pass.

Eminger came back to cover for short term injuries. If Staal and Sauer have anything more than short term injuries, neither Eminger nor Mara is going to be a solution.

IF they explore Mara, doesn't that imply that the Staal and Sauer's injuries aren't short term?

The last thing I want is the Paul Mara's of the league replacing Sauer and Staal, but from a character stand point I love Paul. Wouldn't want him on the team unless absolutely necessary, but if he is here maybe he can show Dubi how to grow a real playoff beard :D.

I sense that as well. Also the Gunnarsson rumors keep popping up. Therefore I expect to see some movement (might be minor though) on the backend within 36 hours. Then again, a big splash is not totally outside of realistic alternatives if both Sauer & Staal have what might be feared to be longer term setbacks (which I know nothing of - but IF the Rangers brass and doctors know this the game plan definitely has changed)...

This.

I liked Mara when he played here. I don't know how much he's regressed since then but if Staal is gonna be out a while, I don't think Mara's a bad cheap option.

mullichicken25 09-20-2011 10:06 AM

i love me some paul mara

but pass

i see emminger as our 7th and at this point emminger>>mara

BBKers 09-20-2011 10:10 AM

Depth chart
LD RD
Staal Girardi
McD Sauer
Erixon Eminger
Valentenko Parlett
MDZ Kundratek
Bell McIlraith

Again, if Staal and Sauer would be out for a while --- our depth chart looks very troublesome
Redden is not an option both waiver & capwise, no matter what Eklund says...

Mara's a third pairing guy at best at this point in his career. I just don't see how he's going to miss camp and preseason, then step right into a 20 min/night role.

DrSutton* 09-20-2011 10:16 AM

Torts has already run him off of 2 of his teams. Third time doesn't seem to be the charm here.

Levitate 09-20-2011 10:16 AM

Why are we worried about Sauer being out for awhile? He's practicing and scrimmaging

BBKers 09-20-2011 10:17 AM

In hindsight, Hannon for a one year deal for a million would've been nice...:sarcasm:

i love how vocal he is. i, too, wouldn't oppose Mara's return.

and he grows a really gnarly beard, too  props to the guy that said he could show Dubi how to grow a real playoff beard

McDonagh 09-20-2011 10:18 AM

Mara strung together a really good couple of months for us during one of his seasons here. I remember him being one of our best guys.

OverTheCap 09-20-2011 10:18 AM

Has anyone seen Mara play the past two seasons? He is not the same Mara that he was two years ago. And I thought he was overrated to begin with when he played here.

Pass.

Isn't that the game that ALMOST ruined Drury's Christmas?

Swept In Seven 09-20-2011 10:21 AM

I would rather stick with what we have

I would to but based on Torts comments this is the type of move I expect for depth. But I really hope if its done he is on a 2 way deal so he can go up and down during the yr

Eminger makes more sense as the spare but if Staal does miss a few games or kids struggle its not terrible to have a cheap vet around

Nekz 09-20-2011 10:41 AM

Mara is a great teammate and a decent defenseman. I wouldn't mind him back on the Rangers, he would be cheap and fill a role that maybe some of these rookies won't be able to. We don't have the best depth in the defense department regarding experienced guys.

NikC 09-20-2011 10:48 AM

he's not needed. we don't need his voice. zero skillset.

big pass.

Florida Ranger 09-20-2011 10:59 AM

It'd just be a depth signing.

Giacomin 09-20-2011 11:06 AM

That Ship has sailed! Lets the Fishsticks have him
