Sam Gagner

Anyone have some updated information? I couldn't see the hit, but I initially thought it was head related from where I was sitting, but I guess it was an ankle. If you have some info, let us know.

MeestaDeteta 09-25-2011 09:46 AM

tsn is reporting it's an ankle injury.

Everest 09-25-2011 09:47 AM

Pretty sure he wasn't scheduled to play tonight anyways.

I imagine they already took x-rays, and if there is swelling, or if it is called for, a MRI will follow in the next few days, after the swelling has gone down. I don't know anymore than that. Nobody stated it was an obvious injury, Renney used the word "precautionary". That's all we got so far, I think.

Wheatking 09-25-2011 10:27 AM

Hopefully they were just playing it safe. I know Gagner turned into the whipping boy over the summer but he's still a valuable player. We can't afford to be losing top 6 players already.

Hockey Nightmare 09-25-2011 10:51 AM

The play is now on tsn. It actually looks pretty rough.

Everest 09-25-2011 10:54 AM

Hoppy must be salivating! I mean...he's already a lock to play 9 NHL games...but...any games Gagner misses...present a whole new world of icetime & opportunities for RNH!

Love what Gretzky said at the end of that clip.

At first I was like.. WTF is he talkin about..

Then I said to myself.. OHHHHhhhhh that's what we SHOULD be like.

zeus3007* 09-25-2011 11:10 AM

It reminds of the play where Smyth broke his ankle chasing after an icing. His leg seems to go into the board the same way. Lets hope its nothing serious.

OilerTyler 09-25-2011 11:11 AM

If it is a serious injury, RHH will more than likely start the season on the Oilers

Or Lander comes up earlier and gets more playing time with the club?

GMofOilers 09-25-2011 11:32 AM

Matheson said its precautionary, and day to day? Lets see how much that changes the next couple of months ;)

Gretzky needs to come home to this organization.

I didn't see how he left the ice, I doubt that it was under his own power. Chances are that he'll be out for awhile.

That's possible too, I just feel that Lander would benefit more from a stint in the AHL than RNH would from a year in the WHL

Marincin28 09-25-2011 12:09 PM

He skated off favoring one leg. I had initially thought he got the wind knocked out of him. I wouldn't expect it to be more than a sprain, but the problem with ankle sprains is they can last days or months.

Digger12 09-25-2011 12:14 PM

According to Matheson's article this morning, Gagner left Rexall walking with a slight limp.

He might miss a bit of time, but initial indications are that it's not too serious. We'll see.

im pretty sure hall had a slight limp after his injury last year too...that took what like 2.5 monthes to heal?

I'd have to agree with you there.

Yeah sprains can take a long, long time to heal. If he isn't back in short order this could be something that lingers for quite some time and his potential return date likely will change a few times at least.

tsnTpoint 09-25-2011 01:41 PM

I hope Gagner is not to bad.

I dont know how Gagner became the whipping boy, that should be Tom Gilbert's title.

Happened to Pisani chasing an icing as well racing after the puck with Lidstrom. His scream right after that still gives me the chills.

This thread is going to get pretty sad pretty soon, soooo:

Please tell me this isn't Ron Maclean.

Ice Whole 09-25-2011 01:53 PM

I hope he is alright. Despite all the hate that he gets on this board, he is still our best center for now. It would suck if him and Whitney aren't healthy enough to start the season.

Moneypuck 09-25-2011 02:19 PM

My crystal ball had Gagner playing fewer than 40 gms this coming season. After 4 healthy seasons, the injury bug will take a big chunk of his season. Being off balance and slamming into the boards like that, it sure looks as though he's lost the first 3 weeks of the season already.
