Trading Hartnell leaves the top 6 a little thin for my liking. No thanks.

Beef Invictus 09-28-2011 04:11 PM

My guess is Shelley.

dats81 09-28-2011 04:21 PM

Matt Walker?
He is a decent third pairing guy, who plays a physical game and fights a little but is kept out of the lineup because of his cap hit here.

Why would anybody want Jody Shelly? Homer would have to offer him in a bundle adding multiple propects to find a taker imho.

They don't need a goalie, that's for sure...

Haven't you heard? Jody Shelley is a fan favorite :sarcasm:

I'd waive Shelley and Walker, but I'm not sure if they are on the cap now. I wouldn't trade Hartnell for nothing. I wouldn't mind getting a defenseman back

DrinkFightFlyers 09-28-2011 04:29 PM

Only way I see them moving Hartnell (at this point, anyway) is if they think Couturier is the real deal and can play top nine or they are getting a guy back who can.

JvR-Giroux-Voracek
Simmons-Briere-Jagr
Read-Schenn/Couturier-Couturier/Schenn
Talbot-Betts-Nodl
Goon

EDIT: I wouldn't mind getting Jordin Tootoo back in return and maybe a pick of some sort. He's a solid 4th liner/Gooner.

Problem is, everyone knows the Flyers are up against the cap, so they're going to want more than usual. Think back to Upshall/2nd for Carcillo because we're almost in the same predicament.

Why can't the Flyers waive Shelley? There's no reason to trade Hartnell for table scraps. Has Lapperiere's LTIR kicked in?

jd2210 09-28-2011 04:41 PM

I'm curious to see how this plays out if it's true. There are a number of guys on Nashville I'd like to see here.

Hartnell's cap hit is lot more than his salary for the next 2 years so Nash could certainly afford him. I can see them being a place he would waive his NMC to go back to.

We'll see what happens I guess but something has to give if they really think Couturier is ready or Walker has earned a spot.

OriginJM 09-28-2011 04:42 PM

awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww ****

time for things to get real

TRADE EVERYONE

barrytrotzsneck 09-28-2011 04:44 PM

If I had to guess on who Philly might like and who Nashville could conceivably part with, its' Roman Josi.

If not for difficulty staying healthy, he'd likely be considered a better prospect than Ryan Ellis. He's basically Ryan Suter -lite-- skates like the wind, can move the puck\QB the pp, and has a nice physical edge as well. I think he'll end up being better than countryman Sbisa when all is said and done. He's also NHL ready, but has a two way deal\waiver exempt, which might appeal to Philly.

Beef Invictus 09-28-2011 04:45 PM

To expound on my guess, I'd think it'll be Shelley and a 2nd for a prospect or something like that (if anything happens at all). Hartnell is currently pretty important to this team's forward group, and Shelley would get us back more cap relief than Lilja. We could get room and not make the team worse.

According to Capgeek, I'm not seeing Walker counting against the cap right now, unless I'm missing something...so no point trading him, I guess.

But Nashville has been pretty vocal about only adding the "right" piece. Taking Jody Shelley would basically be doing Philly a favor. There's not even a spot in the lineup for him at this point -- if we want a goon, we'll play the younger, cheaper Zack Stortini.

I think that Philly might like what they're seeing from Couturier, and may see an easy replacement for someone like Hartnell to do so.

Isn't hartnell the last of the "old guard" buddies of Carter, Richards, Lupul, etc, anyway?

JABEE 09-28-2011 04:52 PM

WIP Afternoons
Glen Macnow is reporting a Flyers Nashviille trade may be imminent. Stay tuned.

If the Philly org thinks Courturier can replace Hartnell then they must all be stoned. trading Hartnell weakens Philly's top 6 considerably. Someone good and preferably proven would have to be coming back to justify it.

I'd say Nashville would do what I guessed at to get the draft pick(s) more than anything else. They can use those to get someone else if they want. Plus, by all accounts Hartnell isn't a negative influence in the locker room so I doubt the "old guard" hoo-hah has anything to do with him.

Snipsnap12 09-28-2011 04:54 PM

Must get a cheap top 9 forward in return or this makes no sense, bury shelley, and walker in the ahl

OriginJM 09-28-2011 04:57 PM

Hartnell and Schenn for Weber. Book it.

Intriguing.

edit: quick glance at Capgeek suggests that might work if we bury a Shelley in the AHL

RevUpThoseGolfCarts 09-28-2011 04:59 PM

I don't think Hartnell would be traded. Then again, I didn't think Richards would be traded...

I really don't want to lose Schenn, but for Weber it's worth it

For cap relief? No. Plus I think that's ******** for Nashville.

FlyersCup08 09-28-2011 05:01 PM

Once Lappy goes on LTIR we'll free up $1.16M, which is plenty of space to call guys up.

BringBackStevens 09-28-2011 05:01 PM

This has bad idea written all over it

I think a team with Pronger and Weber is illegal. Isn't that in the rules somewhere?
