Taylor Fedun Hurt on Delayed Icing Play *UPDATE: Doing Well 1 Year Later*

A pretty revolting accident to happen to Taylor Fedun. A promising career has most likely been written off by a needless play and bad luck.

I actually feel a little sick to my stomach over this. The pain and long term effect of this type of injury would be absolutely devastating.

I'll ask that any other news relating to this injury be posted in this thread.

ohheyhemsky 09-30-2011 10:00 PM

It's good news he has a degree. I'll just say that. Find some good news somewhere in here.

Books 09-30-2011 10:06 PM

Damn, that is not good at all.

No touch icing anyone?

CanadianHockey 09-30-2011 10:09 PM

I'm cringing from the look on his face. Hope it's not as bad as reported, but either way hope he has a full recovery.

copperandblue897 09-30-2011 10:09 PM

Like OP said, makes a guy sick to the stomach. Just put in no touch already. The "offense" created from the rule is not worth severely injuring numerous players

Johnny McBravo 09-30-2011 10:09 PM

this sickens me. The nhl has to do something about it. 1st time I will agree with Burke, Hybrid icing please!!!

BoldNewLettuce 09-30-2011 10:10 PM

having the rule in the preseason is a no brainer...

Seachd 09-30-2011 10:11 PM

"Complex fracture of the right femur".

Is that as serious as it sounds?

dixs35 09-30-2011 10:11 PM

Fracture of the right femur awesome career over. :shakehead

jsho 09-30-2011 10:11 PM

Hopefully its not that bad....

However, even if we had no touch icing, would that play even been blown dead?

Calamus 09-30-2011 10:11 PM

Cherry is going to have a field day on this one.

The rule needs to be changed. I have never been upset with the international rule. It's the right way to call an icing.

Johnny McBravo 09-30-2011 10:11 PM

Fedun's injury is a complex fracture of the right femur.

Shizuka 09-30-2011 10:11 PM

Fracture of his right? femur, according to Tencer. When is a borderline loser like Nystrom going to pay the price and sit out as long as Fedun is out? Just so senseless and sickening.

OILFAN #81 09-30-2011 10:12 PM

As mentioned, Complex fracture of the right femur is the official injury as per the Oilers. Just hope he recovers from it at this point.

Hockey Nightmare 09-30-2011 10:13 PM

****. Isn't that as bad as it gets?

Fixed to Ruin 09-30-2011 10:14 PM

If somehow he can comeback from this, i will be cheering extra hard for him. Time for no touch icing NHL.

tiger_80 09-30-2011 10:16 PM

The injury and rehab will probably take a year or more. Soccer players have come back from injuries of this type, so it is possible. The problem is he's not an established player. Teams won't be lining up to give him another shot.

Johnny McBravo 09-30-2011 10:17 PM

Tencer thinks nystrom wont get a suspension

CanadianHockey 09-30-2011 10:17 PM

While what happened is horrible, Nystrom clearly didn't intend to throw a hit or hurt Fedun - he looks like he's just trying to reach around to play the puck and negate the icing.

NAF 09-30-2011 10:20 PM

So disgusting and pointless. When will the dinosaurs in charge realize that touch icing needs to go? Kurtis Foster will be frothing at the mouth when he hears about this. Guy almost died on the ice on the same play.

Yeah it's going to really set back his development too ... he really needed this year in the AHL.

Everest 09-30-2011 10:24 PM

Control your stick. Control your body. Stay away from any contact on Icing(s).

This is what pro's should be expected to do at ALL times.

When they don't/can't...they should be suspended....with extreme prejudice anytime serious injuries result like this.

Its just so damned lazy/callous and bushleague for Nystrom to do what he did.

The other thing is....Fedun has zero experience on touch icing...and the reason being.....

....Touch icing is a stupid & needless rule which MANY hockey leagues around the world do not utilize for obvious reasons.

It's a rule that needs to be taken out. No touch icing is fine.

Tarus 09-30-2011 10:26 PM

Kind of sad that the NHL claims to be interested in player safety yet, puts in the bare minimum effort to improve things until forced to do so. No touch icing should have been put in years ago, no reason there should ever be a risk of this type of injury off an utterly meaningless puck race after the original Foster injury.

But, much like taking 20 years to realize that maybe they should start actually meting out real NHL discipline in an insigator penalty based hockey league, and waiting until the league marketing star is badly concussed to do something about headshots, icing probably won't be changed until a star player gets his career wiped out or someone outright dies(as Foster almost did).
