Dreger via TSN - LEAFS LOOK TO UPGRADE

There is little heavy-lifting required for the Toronto Maple Leafs to cut their roster down to 23 for next weeks season opener.

Nazem Kadri is expected to be placed on injured reserve which will allow Toronto to keep an extra body on the roster while he recovers from a knee strain.

The Leafs will keep eight defensemen, with Matt Lashoff likely the odd man out. Meanwhile, close tabs will be kept on both Keith Aulie and Jake Gardiner to ensure they can handle the load.

Aside from the few decisions remaining, Toronto is keenly interested in adding another top forward.

The Leafs lack experience up front and are in the market for a player with some size and a track record of making an impact.

The Leafs are willing to sacrifice two younger guys to make this deal happen, but see nothing imminent and predict such a player won't spring free until at least November when teams have had a chance to assess their talent, or have stumbled out of the gate.

Toronto intends on being patient, but ready to make an upgrade when the right player comes along.

I think Dreger would have been better off reporting - Most teams looking to upgrade

SpezDispenser 10-02-2011 10:32 PM

Ryan Malone would look good for the Leafs.

We need someone a little more skilled then Malone, and no way we give two younger players for him, Neal or Benn would be ideal but doubt we get someone like that

Pretty much this ,leaf land is trying to move a defender or two right now i would imagine. The problem is that the market is pretty saturated right now:nod:

I can't believe how the media just eats up stuff Brian Burke says. He's just a lot of hot air. He says things all GMs think. They just don't vocalize them because they're obvious. Yet whatever this fool says gets blown up like some huge scoop. God I hate the media.

Leafs want good players

So would Crosby.

Anyone good, really.

Maybe but i think an upgrade at center is what they most desire

Isn't he left wing?

As much as I don't like him, Penner seems to be an integral part of the Kings offense this year. What's Toronto going to offer up to make the Kings deal him?

In a perfect world yes. In reality; Burke won't be looking to aquire another C. Methinks someone capable of playing on the top line....LW.

a big physical winger is what he is targeting.

Rangers and Oilers are two teams really needing and looking for D help, those are the first places the Leafs should look.

Who's available on those teams though for top 2 line talent the Leafs want though?

If you think a player like Neal or Benn is going to be going to the Leafs then prepare to be disappointing.

In most likely will be a guy like Malone.

Sounds like the ol' bleu, blanc et vert with envy.

Looks like Parise to the Leafs is a real possibility.

That's why he said "doubt". Read carefully next time.

Talk about an article full of fluff. Yikes, Dreger.

Makes sense there arent to many top line centers to be had:nod: Trying to add some balance to that top line would be a good thing ,they need some one to dig the puck out for those two:nod:
