Has he had a bad preseason?

As a NJD fan, I'm VERY interested. Love Blair on the PK.

jd2210 10-04-2011 11:26 AM

I just read that as well. I'm disappointed but I know most of you aren't.

I wonder if there is any chance that this might mean we see a 4 line approach like the Canucks were doing.

Betts was the only guy keeping that 4th line from being that. (Assuming Shelly doesn't play)

just boggles my mind that we waive solid Pkers like Betts and keep retarded good for nothing retards like Shelley around.
Some things never change.

mirimon 10-04-2011 11:28 AM

Not that I'm Betts biggest fan, but it seems a bit strange. He doesn't cost much and we know what he is capable of, I'd prefer to have waited for a while to see how his replacements would start the season with the Phantoms before making this decision.

Shelley might hit the waiver wire yet not sure they can wave him while hes suspended...........

Norm MacDonald 10-04-2011 11:29 AM

Stupid.

DrinkFightFlyers 10-04-2011 11:30 AM

Wow, I do not like this move at all.

John Flyers Fan 10-04-2011 11:30 AM

Probably means Talbot moves to the middle of the 4th line, and Nodl survives.

He played in three of the seven games, the PK was strong throughout the camp. He wasn't ineffective, helped do what he usually does.

I sure hope not. I mean, I know the injuries that happened, etc. (tot he Canucks) but given recent history, I don't feel as if emulating the approach of the next organization to have come oh-so-close-but-not-quite-there is the way to go. Maybe that's superstition, but seriously...

jd2210 10-04-2011 11:31 AM

I know if I were a GM close to the cap I would take my lowest cap hit player (and solid penalty killer) and put him on waivers. Makes sense to me.

The more I think of it, the more I feel we will see a regular shift 4th line from this move.

If that is the case, more evidence of Laviolette's affinity for Nodl.

Spongolium* 10-04-2011 11:31 AM

Yup. I really think Couturier Centering the fourth line when Schenn is back is a real possibility now.

Betts was always in trouble when he had Giroux, Read, Schenn, Talbot, Nodl and Couturier as penalty killers, with JVR and Simmonds knocking on the door.

Thanks MSE!

I think he gets claimed, the Isles and Sens could be a threat to take him. I'd love him in NJ, but the Devils, well I don't even remember the last time we claimed a player on waivers.

BillDineen 10-04-2011 11:36 AM

I like Betts, but I think this board grossly overvalues him.

I like Betts and hope he clears, but this year he did become redundant.

Spongolium* 10-04-2011 11:37 AM

Simmonds - Schenn - Read
Nodl - Couturier - Talbot
Rinaldo

Me likey

nevermore 10-04-2011 11:39 AM

I love Betts, but I saw this one coming.
Doubt he clears.

Beef Invictus 10-04-2011 11:39 AM

MiamiScreamingEagles 10-04-2011 11:40 AM

Bartulis and Walker to be waived today

Add them to the list.
