Holmgren: Walker "working on some other stuff."

 Hopefully he's packing his bags along with those of Leighton and Shelley.....

Anyway...Walker had a pretty good camp but he's just a cap anchor. Lilja actually played pretty good...

Walker did not participate at the morning skate and the Flyers were being rather cryptic as to why. It appears Andreas Lilja will replace him in the lineup.

Coach Peter Laviolette referred questions to general manager Paul Holmgren, which almost always implies an injury.

“Nothing happened [to him], he didn’t skate this morning but he’s available to play,” Holmgren said. “He wanted to do some other stuff.”

Holmgren said that Walker was “working on some other stuff,” which could imply a series of Core-X exercises that the club has given him which he is required to do on a daily basis.

“It’s not an injury,” Holmgren said.

I was hoping to see Walker play. But I was more than satisfied with the way Lilja preformed. I do not know what Matt is up to,but with a 1.7 cap hit he better get squared away pretty quick.

Per Meltzer...jeesh if in fact Walker is nursing an injury this guy is beyond injury prone...

I am still not sure why there was so much secrecy by the Flyers about the status of Matt Walker for last night's game. With all due respect to Walker -- who is a serviceable and physical third-pairing NHL defenseman when healthy -- his presence or absence was not going to alter Boston's approach one iota. I doubt anyone on the Boston side cared at all whether Walker or Lilja was Philly's sixth defenseman last night.

Flyers GM Paul Holmgren insists that Walker is healthy, despite the fact that he had a maintenance day last Sunday, did not practice Tuesday (after a team off-day on Monday) and was not on the ice for the morning skate yesterday.

This is one instance where I don't blame the media for speculating even though it's really unfair to the player.

If that is the case maybe it is time to send him back down. However it is evident that there is no one on the phantoms who is ready to be our 7th.

Here is some more...something is not kosher considering Walker advertised he was going to play last night and that he beat the odds by making the team.

Quote:

A team source says Walker suffered a "slight" groin strain in last Saturday's preseason game in New Jersey. Versus television analyst Pierre McGuire said on air that Walker is suffering from a "nasty virus."

So, which is it? If he was sick and quarantined from the team, why would he participate in the pregame skate and dress in the locker room?

"He is fine," Holmgren said.

Walker is an injury that occasionally has bouts of health.
