I can't speak to the effect that Carter will have on the Kings, but I know that from the Capitals' perspective, they would not have qualified a 30-year-old Anson Carter this summer at $2.8 million. He was going to leave, and they just needed to get something in exchange. Now Aulin will not leave anyone forgetting about Jagr, but he provides the farm system with a strong character player, who is a legitimate second-line center prospect (something that was needed) and at only 21 years of age he will be around for some time. I don't know who wins or who loses this trade, but the Capitals certainly fill a need and add yet another promising player for the future. Here's hoping Carter helps out LA in its bid for a playoff spot.
