Imo many people are overreacting to this trade. Gratton is a mature player at this point whose form is peaking nicely right in time for the playoffs. He is currently playing injured but was still producing for the Coyotes. The Avs are a veteran team and Gratton has finally, I think, accepted that his role is as a third line center. He will bring size, professionality and face off ability to the Avs for the playoffs.

Ossi is a different type of player than Morris that's for sure but as steady young d-men go Ossi is one of the top young players in his position. Instead of an underachieving, mistakeprone Morris the Avs get an up and coming NHL prototypical defensive d-man, another Foote (upside) if you will. Ossi can skate, has the size, decent hands, the grit and the right attitude to be a superb pro for the Avs for the next ten years. It is possible that Lacroix won this deal if Morris cannot become more reliable and Ballard fails to make an impact in the desert.
