Now you have a brand new helmet with a broken screw and a nice new scratch. Sound like something you'd want to drop $100 on? When you have to earn the money yourself, it makes a difference.
It's a hockey helmet...they get scratches, and scuffs and all kinds of marks on them. If it were my sons, we would not deal with the hassle and replace the screw. As I said, it is no big deal. If it couldn't be replaced, which by the way seems to be the case, I would return it and the pro shop or wherever I bought it would most likely be happy to provide a replacement. My sons brand new helmet looks like it has been through a war. But that's because he plays hockey. He could care less what his gear looks like. He isn't in it to look good.
