A little more food for thought.
Koivu has played 13 fewer games than Ribeiro yet has amassed 3 more even strength points than Ribeiro. This comparison looks even better in Koivu's favour when you consider that his 1st 5 games were basically a write off due to him missing training camp and recovering from a knee injury.
I also beleive that Koivu's PP points suffered when he was being used on the point and if he was used as he should be I beleive he would have a few more points.
I should say that while I am not a big fan of Ribeiro I will admit that he has surprised me this season as he has made significant improvements in his skating and strength and if he continues to mature and shows more commitment to his defensive responsibilities I think he could possibly have a bright future in Montreal as long as he is provided with star wingers who can compensate for some of his physical shortcomings.
Hopefully Ribeiro can take his development up another notch in time for the playoffs because if he can, this team could pose a real threat as we have a goaltender who can steal a series, some real skill on our top 2 lines and 2 very capable checking lines, and a solid defence corps with the return of Souray. We also have some very good depth at every position which will allow us to overcome unforseen injuries.
