At this point Mason has 84 career games under his belt, with a .921 career save percentage, enough action to set aside the "fluke rookie" concern. When Vokoun went down last year Mason took the helm and continued delivering stellar goaltending over a 30-game stretch. While there's always the risk that he could stumble in making the transition to #1 guy and wear down as the playoffs approach, at some point every franchise has to make a move like this, and all the signs seem to indicate that Mason's ready to handle the load.
