Does anyone want Mess back next year?

I don't think it's as cut and dry to say either "He is great with younger players. He can still play in a limited role." or "He's too old. He hurts the Rangers.". IMO there is a middle ground.
I don't think he should be back. He has a had a very good year from a personal stand point. He should go out while he is still a player who can produce. We all love Messier and will remember '94 and we always will. This decision does nothing to compromise. But this team is 10 years removed from 94 and 7 years removed from the playoffs and this team must look forward.
Messier cannot lead effectively because he cannot physically will himself to win games like we have seen him do (but not in the past three four seasons). Canuck players might have raved about what Mess did for the team but he also did something else that helped them: he left. The tipping point on Messier is long passed. He has been a great Ranger and nothing will change that. It's time for a new voice.
