If they were to trade Ovechkin for, let's say, Umberger, Lundmark, and a 1st round and 2nd round pick, they would be getting three players for the price of one (actually less then one with the bonuses the Ovechkin would have in his salary). Their first and second round picks aquired in that deal would likely not be on the NHL roster.
This is the team that traded Alexi Kovalev for a bag of pucks, remember?
The trade would be something like above with an addition $3 million or so going to PITT to pay the two players salaries.
