In all fairness, Ryder was an 8th round pick for a reason at the time. He is not a very skilled player (though thats changing this season), its his hard work and no quit attitude that makes him so successful in the NHL. At the time that hard work was not present and he was struggling. Being moved down to the ECHL and back up gave him the confidence he needed to succeed at a higher step and only came around when Claude started coaching in Hamilton. He had Ryder as a young kid and knew what buttons to press to get the best out of him and he did, and is currently doing so at the NHL level.

Savard was part of the rebuilding Nordiques, now Avs who have been cup contenders (and won one) for quite a few seasons now, and he was part of the scouting team that drafted these players. He then continued that work and helped build a very strong Ottawa team. Now, according to this very site, the Canadiens are kings of the prospect world, and thats thanks to AS' drafting. Hes regarded as a top scout for talent around the NHL, and for a reason. He was not ready to be GM, but he did get us off on the right foot unlike the GM before him.
