I agree with the premise in the 1st sentence. For example - Alexander Mogilny - before he broke his leg - was incredibly fast & good acceleration, well above his peers, but I wouldn't say he could turn on a dime. Lafleur was the most effortless skater I've seen, Coffey close behind. Glenn Anderson and Mike Gartner the fastest. Orr's knees gave out by the time I saw him, so I can't comment there.

Harold Snepts was the slowest / most plodding.
